Need immediate help!

Ok, so my computer is great, it's super fast, can run almost anything...and MineCraft messing it up?! I can run L4D2, Bad Company 2, Fallout 3 all on high graphics without a problem, but MineCraft freezes, goes to black screen the comes back and tells me Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered! I doubt it's an overheating problem aswell.
I really need some help and I don't want to stop playing MineCraft, so please, any help you can give would be great.

I run on Windows 7 and have an ATI (will find out what version) display driver.

Just try checking for a more recent driver that's compatible with your Graphics Card.

I've been having problems with Minecraft crashing since the most recent updates. Not only that, when I re-load the last save, I'm caught in some odd death-circle where I can't move or do anything, and my life slowly drains. It's messed up more than a few of my games, so I'm kinda waiting for some kind of fix before I try again.

Windows 7 64 bit has been causing a lot of problems on a lot of things for people lately, its going through a bit of a vista phase. Maybe the update wasnt optimised well?
