Recently, I've been noticing more and more that my ears have been ringing.

I didn't really pay much attention to it sense I have earphones in all the time (iPod, Computer, etc.) but I recently went to my eye doctor (not my eye doctor, just an eye doctor for an eye exam) and she asked me if I've been having any ringing in my ears.

I don't remember how/why she asked me about ringing, but she said as long as I don't hear a sloshing noise like fluid in my ears, its no problem, but I'm still a bit worried. I'll have the natural ringing when I take out earphones, but ocassionally, I'll get a somewhat loud ring in my left ear for no apparent reason.

I haven't been having headaches, blurred vision or anything that normal says "you have a tumor" but I'm still scared. Any help?

It's Lupus.

Go to a Doctor. The Escapist is no place to solicit medical advice. Ever.

I study medicine, but there is NO WAY I'm going to attempt to diagnose you across an internet forum. If you're worried, go see your doctor, or if you still live at home, talk to your parents and get them to take you to the doctor. The internet is the worst place you can come for medical advice, and that's from someone studying it! Go see your doctor, explain your situation and listen to their advice, not ours.

First of all, don't freak out, since that might actually cause you to suffer from those symptoms.

Second, I would suggest not stressing your ears so much, cut down on the times spending with your headphones on, or at least try to turn the volume down. Noise from headphones is twice as harmful as from stuff not so close to your ear. I do not know why this is so, but I think I have read something about it in a biology book or summeh'.

If this wears off, it might just be over stressing your ears, but if in doubt, go to the doctor, but maybe not the same one.

I have no expertise in anything relevant to medicine, so use my advice at your own risk. o_O.

Go to a doctor

Like this weekend or sooner. It's most likely not life threatening, but best you go to a real doctor and get it checked out before it becomes any worse

It's never Lupus.
Ringing in your ears is called Tinnitus. It can be caused by allergic reactions to medication such as aspirin or other allergens.

you damaged your hearing with the headphones. you heard makes alot of strange noises that sound like a "ringing" most of the time other noises drown them out. when someone damages the outer part of their hearing system (i forget the scientific name) they begin to hear these noises that are inside there head. i don;t mean crazy inside your head. i mean like blood flow and the electrical impulses in your head.

Thats actually what seems to be happening. I do have a very soft ringing if I concentrate on it when I'm in total silence.

So, I've just damaged the outer part of my ear? No cancer? No tumor? No life threatening illness? Just outer ear damage?

I've looked up Tinnitus before and I don't think I have it. Tinnitus is caused by medication and I don't take medicine. Like ever. Not even aspirin.

Well, then I'm stumped. This is why you don't ask for medical help on the Internet.

i just want t osay I'm no doctor and this is nto a prfessional diagnosis. now with the legal stuff out of the way. Yeah our heads have wierd noises in them and we can't normally hear them in the enviromental noise cluter we are exposed to but if we loose the ability talking to hear high or low frequency noises then we start to hear the inner noise of our heads. Blood moving, other liquids moving, electricity jumping, muscle movement, glands pumping. all sorts of crazy stuff.

To the point. Its the hairs in the ears or the ear canal or the ear drum.

Sounds like tinnitus to me. A freind who was a DJ got it by damaging his hearing by playing loud gigs every night. Still go see your doctor. The internet is a bad place for medical advice. BUY THESE NEW PILLS NOW! MAKE YOUR PENIS LONGER THAN YOUR ARMS!!!. CHEAP MEDS!!!!

except for that one time it was lupus.

seriously, go see a doctor. or just ignore it and hope it will go away. insurance will help with one, alcohol will help with the other.

I would suggest the same thing as everyone else here. "Go see a doctor". Ringing in your ears is natural. Try turning down the volume on your Ipod and computer for a while (I would say roughly 1-2 weeks) and see if that helps. If your ears are bothering you to much to finish that one week or if there is still a ringing then sorry, but I'm all out of ideas.

So I have ultra sensitive hearing? Sweet.

The ringing isn't loud enough to where I can't concentrate or I can't hear over it, but when there is total silence (like when I go to sleep) there's a soft ringing, so I never gave it much thought.

Its not even bad enough to where I can't sleep, its just a low volume ring.
