I took delivery of a new Logitech G602 this past week and hooked it up today. My first impressions aren't good. The second of two main selling points, the six thumb buttons are really not to my liking (the other being the exceptional battery life).
Where my thumb naturally rests is right up against the G5 thumb key and it's a really unpleasant and uncomfortable sensation. The G700's thumb keys, 4 larger ones, were concave relative to the my right thumb that sat comfortably on the nicely textured surface. The G602's keys are convex(ish) on both sides and while half my thumb is half on the nice surface, the inner surface is right on the shiny, sticky G5 key and it's not nice at all.
Second, because the thumb buttons are smaller, the front two feel harder to get to. I can access the back four without much issue or thought, but getting to the front two is harder work and requires "reaching" if that makes sense. They aren't as easy to get to (though conversely the two "bonus" buttons on the top-left are much easier to use than the three on the G700.
Lastly, where the G700 thumb buttons have a glorious, satisfying, slightly springy and solid feel, these 6 thumb buttons are horribly "clicky". They feel cheap and more suited to a mechanical keyboard than a gaming mouse. I appreciate that "it's different" and therefore a change is required but I'm not convinced by this one. I need to game on it really get a better picture but suspect my first impression will be hard to shake and I'll be after a refund tomorrow. Which brings me back to square one...probably the G700s will win out, though I'm not keen on it's looks. It satisfies in most other ways and won't be worse than the G700.
*sigh*
