Apparently my motherboard is starting to short circuit, and I need to buy a new one. My old one uses DDR ram, so I'll probably need to get some DDR2/3 also, and a new process (quad core or better). Any suggestions? Trying to stay within the $200-300 range.

Only for windows. A linux system can handle upwards of 64 tebibytes of physical memory. 1 TiB is appx 10^12 bytes. Of course, only massive servers will even come close to this amount of RAM requirements, and due to physical memory space, the limit for PCs is basically nonexistent.

unless you are planning to work out Pi I dont think there is no need to have 8GB or more however this would be nice if you were not planning to upgrade the RAM until the next nuclear holocaust
