Here's some advice...If you can't afford to fork over $6000 USD along ith your first born, stay away from Alienware. They're great, don't get me wrong, but they cost a shitload, (my friend says it's because they have egos the size of Manhattan).

On topic, newegg and ibuypower are pretty good.

I built my current rig for GTAIV on high settings (it's console optimised, meaning it runs like a ***** on PC's), it cost me 600 (not including aftermarket stuff like a 1TB hard drive and a new copy of Windows). If you can possibly learn to build PC's, I highly recommend it. I don't know about other people, but when I was looking for parts I had a shop offer to build it for me for "only about 100 quid". It's easy enough, it's pretty much square-peg-goes-in-the-square-hole.

tomshardware.com is a pretty good place for tutorials etc, and canirunit.com will tell you what you'd need to do to your current PC to run it. Your Profile doesn't say where you are, but I'm in the UK and got my gear from overclockers UK, it was all cheaper on there. I believe the site for Americans is Newegg?

Oh, and lastly- contrary to popular belief, you DON'T need to spend a bomb to get a decent PC, nor do you need to update every 2-3 months. Bleeding edge is nice, but it's expensive and really not needed.

EDIT: Seconded about Alienware. Buy a pre-build if you really have to, but STAY AWAY FROM ALIENWARE.

and Dell.

Newegg is how I bought most of my supplies. When building the computer, the most expensive thing will most likely be the monitor (if you get one of high quality). Everything else is usually less than $100 (the conversion rate will be kind to you Megametalwolf).

The RAM and video cards can easily be replaced with updated tech so you don't have to spend an arm and a leg right away to get the best of its kind. I first bought a 256 7600GT for about $50 two years ago and spent even less on a 512 8600GT a year later. The machine still works with amazing proficiency but I might want to upgrade my RAM.

Building your own computer is AMAZING and is much cheaper than buying one off the rack.

Have a look on ebuyer.com, they've got desktops, laptops, refurbished and what not.

Honestly, you just need to look around. Websites like eBuyer, Dabs, Overclockers and Novatech are some examples. I recommend that you never stick to one store, always do price comparisons.

Also, as it looks like you're British, ignore EVERYONE who recommends Newegg. They have yet to offer anything to anyone outside of the US.

Newegg.com does not currently ship internationally; we only deliver to locations within the United States and to Puerto Rico.

My current PC is one i built for around £500, all of my parts were bought from Scan.co.uk.
With a bit of overclocking and whatnot it runs Crysis on near-max and looks splendid.

As other have said; Alienware pricey. I'd really recommend building your own from scratch, it's amazingly simple and extremely satisfying.

If you're on a budget and already have a PC, you could use some of your current hardware to tide you over until you can afford the new piece you'd like.
That said with £800 you should be laughin'.

Whoa whoa whoa...$6000 USD? A year ago I bought one of their high end gaming laptops and payed only $2300 USD for it. What on Earth did you buy from them?

EDIT: I will say to stay away from Alienware for a different reason though...their customer service is awful. By far the worst customer service I've ever dealt with.

I was refering to the desktops. The high performance gaming PC had a price in that range. Also, I might be using hyperbole...I can never tell.

EDIT: I didn't buy anything. I was price shopping.
