Monday my English gave the class and assignment of reading the first 90 pages of the novel Ask the Dust by John Fante. After we checked out our books from the library we discovered a few of us didn't have one due to a shortage. I the spirit of generosity I decided to lend my book to someone in the hopes that they would have read the 90 pages by today and would return it to me as we agreed. So I we met just before lunch so she could hand it over and I come to learn tat not only did she not read it, she lost it.

I have called up every bookstore and library and they say that they have all been bought/checked out, mainly by students of the local college and the Internet hasn't been a team player either (since I do not intend to pay a website just to read about a few chapters of a book). We have a test tomorrow on the reading portion and I've only had enough time to read the first 12 pages while it was in my possession.

With the test drawing nearer I am beginning to panic, which is why I have turned to the literature-loving people of the Escapist. If anyone is able to summarize what happens within the first half of the novel then I might be able to squeak by with a C or B.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can tell me even the slightest bit about Ask the Dust.

EDIT: I'm looking for a quick summarization, not a study guide website.

Some things in life are readable

For everything else, there's sparknotes.
Do you think I wouldn't have tried that already? And Cliff's Note.

Sparknotes is mostly tailored for high school literature. Ask the Dust is considered college material.

Oh yeah I forgot about that, well did you try http://www.allreaders.com/Topics/info_6371.asp and http://online.wsj.com/article/SB114194492483094105.html?

Why can't you just ask someone else if you can borrow their copy of the book anyway?

I looked it up, but it looks like even some of the reviews cost money to read. Here's a brief synopsis and basic info if it helps though: http://www.allreaders.com/Topics/info_6371.asp

Edit: Woah, ninja'd! Weird...
