Hey guys. I have recently started making a 2d top down action rpg in which you play as a mage. I am currently programming the spells for it and i was wondering if you guys had any ideas for what spells i should add. Thanks in advance.
Yeah i've got some of the classics. done a fireball, got lightning planned, u got shadow bolts as ur primary, i've been considering doing summons (harder to program though) and got heal.RidleyValiant said:Can always go with the classics, Fireball, Lightning bolt, Shadow bolt, Some form of summoning and healing spells.
A friend of mine who did a similar thing, turned to Pokemon to get ideas for spells, which I thought was a novel but effective approach.
Any plans for improving systems for the skills? Like lightning could evolve to chain lightning (ala jumps to 4 or 5 nearby targets decreasing damage with each jump), Fireball could become an AoE attack. You should have some sort of CC, say Charm, Fear, Polymorph, Snare (ie movement speed decreases), root (completely locked in place).black_knight1337 said:Yeah i've got some of the classics. done a fireball, got lightning planned, u got shadow bolts as ur primary, i've been considering doing summons (harder to program though) and got heal.RidleyValiant said:Can always go with the classics, Fireball, Lightning bolt, Shadow bolt, Some form of summoning and healing spells.

I might give that a try. Thanks for the idea.
Maybe, however its not likely. what I have planned is a linear progression for the spells. so you put in a skill point and it adds X Y where X is an amount and Y is the spells main purpose (ie damage, duration, range etc). Although it would be cool to have variable skills like you say. Might implement this in the future but its not likely atm.Wuggy said:Any plans for improving systems for the skills?
