Need some moderator help.

Alright guys and girls of the Escapist, I call upon you for advice.

I am a minor moderator at a website. "Minor" meaning that I can close threads and issue warnings, but I cannot delete threads, ban people or delete posts. So far, the other mods have gone AWOL and left me to deal with the community filth. A user posts a thread asking for help on a common problem. Makes perfect sense, a few community members reply, and then the thread sinks. Then, instead of bumping the thread, he makes a BRAND new one. Exact same question. I link him to his old thread, lock the new one, even bump it for him. He gets an answer to his problem, and then I close the thread, as is the policy concerning "Help" threads.

Now, here's where the Excedrin comes in. He makes ANOTHER thread asking whether he should call his manufacturer or the support line to get help with his problem. Now, seeing as there are no other moderators around to help me, and my abilities are limited, I would reach out to the sophisticated community of the Escapist. What do I do to get this fucker to STOP posting new threads? I've warned him time and time again, and locked his new threads, but he just doesn't get the message, and I can't ban him.

Well, why can't you ban him? Is it a technical issue, or an ethical issue?

Because if he just keeps doing the same thing over and over again and you keep having to call him on it, that's at least grounds for suspension or something.

If you can't ban him there is nothing you can do. Point him in the direction of the rules, and if he chooses not to follow them, you're going to have to find another mod to deal with him. Anyways, what kind of a moderator are you that you can't ban anyone or delete anything? How are you a moderator at all?

i'd say try and find out who runs the site and get a hold of him and complain to him about the lack of mods and such

Either that, or you can stop being a mod, but since that idea hasn't popped up, then I guess you're gonna be persistent in your attempts to stop this guy. Have fun!

Sounds like you're ill-equipped to escalate should that come to necessity. I'd recommend trying to get in contact with the other mods regarding what's going on, but otherwise continue locking the threads as necessary. Make sure to impress the fact that what he's doing will lead to punishment, and why it will lead to punishment.

That's my advice, at least.

Like I said, I'm a "Minor" moderator. Like the Escapist, these forums have a high standard for whom may become a mod, and who may not. I've just been with the site for a long time, and therefore they gave me modship.
