I know this gets done alot but I'm looking for something literally 'different' to the usual.

I love weird and creative music, I'm a big prog/avante garde fan and I'm in need of some music to make me go wow from how crazy it is or how brilliant it is musically. I love bands like, Mr.Bungle, Porcupine Tree, Sikth, Sleepy time gorilla museum, Pain of salvation, Frost* etc.

So Escapists if you know of any bands/music worth checking out please post!

Also I'm a bit of a thrash metal nut aswell so any thrash is very welcome.

Edit: You guys have been great. I've listened to everything posted on here and at least one song from every suggestion and I now have a hell of alot to listen to. But of course feel free to add more.

Music from this lot is gonna get further listenings: Arcturus, Ayreon, Squirrel nut zippers, Bad acid trip, Russian circles, Secret chiefs 3, Ulver, Zazens boys, 65daysofstatic, Maybeshewill, Ihsahn, Exivious, Here come the mummies, Two steps from hell, Dekapitator,Skeletonwitch, Devian,Street light manifesto, Goldfish, Caravan palace,Kayo Dot and Pin-up went down.

If it ain't above it's either because I was familiar with them already or I just wasn't into them.

I do like a bit of ska punk now and then. Not exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for but cheers anyhow. They're pretty good mind.
I know it's a bit outside the genres you listed, but some of their songs have some pretty cool weird stuff going on. The ones that don't are just GOOD :D

Arcturus is pretty avant garde.

If you like proggy stuff, too, I'd recommend Ayreon.

Both of these are definitely on the right lines as what I requested. Really cool stuff. I love the insane circus themes in the first one.

Circus Contraption?

(Most of their stuff is a bit tamer, though...)

I like Squirrel Nut Zippers, myself.

Incidentally, this video was animated by some of the animators from The Simpsons.

Also, I have to mention The World/Inferno Friendship Society.

Cabaret-punk. Gotta love it!

I don't know any bands, but there's a guy on Youtube who makes his own songs. They're certainly wierd and creative.

The guy's channel is SYRSAmusic

I'd recommend Bad Acid Trip, Captain Beefheart, Russian Circles, Secret Chiefs 3, Swans, Ulver, and Zazen Boys. If you were at all interested in post rock, I'd highly reccomend 65daysofstatic and Maybeshewill.

Brofist on Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, just found out about them a couple of weeks ago. Amazing music.

Maybe not in your line of music but I will recommend them anyway. You asked for new music after all. The worst thing happening is that you don't like them.

Apocalyptica (cellos ftw)
Two Steps from Hell (Movie-like music)

Both are very "orchestral" in the way that few of the songs have lyrics.

Avant garde? Might I suggest some Ulver good sir:

To satiate your prog needs how about some Ihsahn:

For some thrash, why not give Woe of Tyrants a whirl:

And for something a little different, why not give Dutch Jazz Metallers Exvious a go:

I know nothing about what class of music The Spores fits into. I like that you can understand what they are saying but it makes no sense. You can't get much stranger than these:

Edit: Big Brother cracks me up because a friend who didn't get the 1984 reference thought it was Christian rock or something.

This band doesn't exactly fit into your genre, but it's something new, and they are very good.
Here Come the Mummies. I found them when they performed on a radio show called Bob&Tom. They have videos of the performances on Youtube, if you want to check them out.

Maybe you'd like this?
Shamrain - Raindrops

If not, then I can only recommend some Thrash.

Coroner - Masked Jackal

Tankard - Thrash 'til Death

Dekapitator - Storm Before the Calm

Demolition Hammer - Infectious Hospital Waste

If you're interested in Death/Thrash or Black/Thrash, open the next spoiler.

Nocturnal Breed - Fist of Fury

Skeletonwitch - Soul Thrashing Black Sorcery

Witchery - All Evil

Legion of the Damned - Taste of the Whip

Devian - Assailant

Axegressor - Axegressor

Vader - Chaos

Try looking at a broader range of music, variety is the spice of life.

I hope you were at least interested in one of them.

I'm sure you don't mean to but you come across as patronising here. Especially assuming I don't listen to a variety of music and genres.I clearly ask for certain kinds of music as that is what I am in the mood for not due to my ignorance of other music.

I listened to what you posted and I appreciate the suggestions but only Bombay Bicycle Club caught my interest.
