Long story short, three webcomics I used to frequent jumped the shark in a bad way so I need some suggestions in order to cover my Webcomic needs.

I prefer Webcomics with some comic relief, I am also not above liking certain adult themes when done right (i.e. violence, gore and sex jokes).

The webcomics that I abandoned today are:

Least I could do, Looking for Group and Gutters. Everything directly related to Blind Ferret Entertainment.

Comics I abandoned long ago:

Penny Arcade(long before the Dickwolves stuff).
The Noob Comic
And a handful of others that I never really got into.

Webcomics that I am watching:

Girl Genius (by far my favorite)
Order of the Stick
Nerf Now
Ctrl-Alt-Del (on parole until I see the new Ethan)

XKCD. Abstrusegoose is very similar sometimes.

I personally like Skin Deep, but it's been a while since the last update.

My suggestion to you? Goblins [http://www.goblinscomic.org/]. It's a good comic in a D&D-style world with some acknowledgement of the rules within, similar to OOTS. However it also has some great art (Even if it starts at not-the-best), really detailed and possibly gory scenes, adult themes, funny characters and moments.... its only real downside is a bit of an unreliable update schedule. It just got off a seven month hiatus after the creator had a minor breakdown, and is entering a "Will update when it update" kind of schedule. But I'd say it's worth it.

Sluggy Freelance. It's been going since 8/25/97.

If you're in to a long, long, loooooooonnnnnnnnnggggg archive trawl then Sluggy Freelance (which at times is hilarious) will keep you busy for months.

Also Darths and Droids. It's a take on DM of the Rings that is using pictures from the Star Wars prequels and Original Trilogy (it's been going for years and is has only reached Empire). The story is basically tabletop RPG players in a "world" where Star Wars didn't exist playing though the movies.

The really funny thing about Darths and Droids is that the 'player character' decision make more sense of the movies than the original plots did. This one is highly recommended! ^_^

Three Panel Soul [http://www.threepanelsoul.com] is currently my favorite, done by the same guys from Mac Hall [http://www.machall.com/]

Personally...well, I'd highly recommend the early Darth and Droids, it started out great, but IMHO, it went downhill very fast all of a sudden. Might have gotten better again, I haven't looked at it for ages.

A long running and quite frankly amazing webcomic that focuses on the lives of several friends.
Full of D&D jokes, humour, drama and the greatest pudding-cat the earth has ever known.
Storylines include running a phone-sex line, mental illness, parenthood and sociopaths.

Well worth the effort of reading.

http://thepunchlineismachismo.com/ Is one of my current favorites, I was into chimneyspeak but as of late it's just turned into porn and I'm waiting for it go back to the story (right now it's in the prequel to the original and with a bunch of the new characters it looks like it's gonna be good once the writer untapes the the pen from his dick). Sandra & Woo is a good slice of life comic and http://platinumblackcomic.com/ is looking good, but it tends to get updated sporadically at best due to the creators work schedule. Also http://medic.fgrade.com.au/ if you like true stories from a paramedic and don't mind few spelling errors every now and again.

Nimona [http://gingerhaze.com/nimona/comic/page-1] is one of the only comics I read that hasn't been mentioned yet. Author says there's only 1 more page to go till it's finished. I recommend at least reading the first 2 pages before calling judgement.

Also there's Prequel [http://www.prequeladventure.com/2011/03/prequel-begin/], long winded, slow updating, a few surprising parts that required a lot of extra effort, which results in slower updates. It's an Elder Scrolls comic, mainly centered around Oblivion. It also lets fans input commands to try and make stuff happen, hilarity ensues. Maybe slightly funnier if you've ever read Problem Sleuth [http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=4] or Homestuck [http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6], which I don't think are that great but are apparently really popular.

In no particular order, and for no particular reason:

- Paranatural [http://www.paranatural.net/]: Good comedy, good characters, intriguing emerging story. Basically a parody and love letter to superpowered high school student stories.
- Stand Still, Stay Silent [http://www.sssscomic.com/comic.php?page=1]: A somewhat unique take on the post-apocalyptic plague world story. The author has a switch that goes between "cutesy character interactions" and "disturbing horrific gorefest" that gets idly flipped without warning every once in a while.
- Cucumber Quest [http://cucumber.gigidigi.com/]: A parody of all things JRPG. The kid-friendly ones, at least.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
A couple of my favorites are

Girl Genius, which you already listed and I forget is a webcomic since I've just been collecting the hardback books.

Digger http://diggercomic.com/blog/2007/02/01/wombat1-gnorf/ (its also finished so you get a full story from it)

Flaky Pastry http://flakypastry.runningwithpencils.com/comic.php?strip_id=0 (starts off a bit standard but its got great chartacters and art)

Gunnerkriegg Court http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1 (its one of those comics you cant really describe beyond saying 'Read it')

String Theory http://www.stringtheorycomic.com/comics/chapterone/chapterone/ (another quite good one that I'm not really sure how to describe)

Zebra Girl http://zebragirl.net/?date=2000-05-06 (Another finished comic. Its about a girl who gets turned into a demon, its a rather strange one, it starts out comedic then it gets slightly dark and serious before finally getting philosophical.)

If you want something sexy and funny, check out Oglaf http://oglaf.com/ (pretty damn NSFW though)

Want some webcomics? I got a few* I'd like to share:

Order of the Stick- a fantasy webcomic... with stick figures. It starts off as a parody of role-playing games... and moves on to something more.

Darths and Droids- basically the Star Wars movies were a tabletop RPG. It manages to explain some of the weirder aspects of the prequels (even Jar-Jar) by having them be the creations of a little girl's imagination.

8-Bit Theater- An 8-bit comic poking fun at the first Final Fantasy game. It has some pretty dark humor, but it's still fun nonetheless.

Bob and George- another 8-bit comic, this one based around the Megaman games. Funnily enough, the 8-bit portion of the comic was meant to be a placeholder for a hand-drawn comic... but it soon became the regular comic with the title characters interacting with the other characters.

Jack- an anthro comic based around the afterlife in a world of anthro animals. Very dark, but that makes the poignant moments shine all the more. Remember, just because it has funny animals in it doesn't mean it's for children. DEAR GOD IS IT NOT FOR CHILDREN! It might be a bit polarizing, but worth a look for anyone who is brave enough to give it a shot.

Scandinavia and the World- basically, it's about anthropomorphized nations.. yes, just like Axis Powers Hetalia, though it focuses on the Nordic countries. And as a fan of the Hetalia anime/manga, I really enjoy this one.

Breakfast of the Gods- a dark and edgy tale about a world of breakfast cereal mascots. trying to stop the schemes of the evil Count Chocula. No, really.

Digger- a terrific fantasy epic about a wombat (our titular character) ending up in a place far from home, and in order to get back, she must first kill a dead god. It's beautifully drawn, well-written, and engaging.

Tales of the Questor- A story about a about a young Racoonan (anthro raccoon) named Quentyn, a daydreamer who wants to become a Questor- a hero-for-hire, if you will. There is a bit of religious undertones, but think of it more as a Narnia-esque allegory and you'll be fine.

The Adventures of Doctor McNinja- A fun comic about a doctor, who's also a ninja, and all the weird adventures he gets himself in. That's pretty much it.

The 10 Doctors- a Doctor Who fancomic wherein all the Doctors (at the time, at least), are brought together under unsual circumstances, and have to figure out what's going on while facing down their various foes. A great comic for fans of the show.

The Whiteboard- The misadventures of a polar bear who runs a paintball shop and his friends. Even if you know next to nothing about paintball (like me), you'll still get a kick out of it. Especially since the Doc - the main character - tends to go a bit overboard with his inventions...

JL8- Basically, it's a comic about the Justice League as 8-year olds. Cute, heartwarming, and all-around funny.

Extrminatus Now- Basically, it's what you get if you crossed Sonic the Hedgehog with Warhammer 40K. Wickedly funny, even if that humor gets a bit dark at times.

Skin Deep- The basic premise is that creatures of myth and legend exist... in the guise of humans. The comic is all about how the characters who have just discovered their real nature deal with this reality. There are several groups of characters the comic focuses on at a time, some people find this annoying, but I personally don't mind, as it lets us see more of this world.

Buck Godot- A fantastic comic set in a futuristic sci-fi universe full of twists and turns and lots of strange aliens.

...So yeah, I have a lot of favorites. Give 'em a look and decide which ones you like! (I don't expect you to like all of them, these are only suggestions)

Paradox Space which focusses on small cutesy side-stories.

Gunnerkrigg Court is a pretty fascinating beast. Slow burning world building mixed with short adventures and some legitimate drama. Goes through a massive art-evolution and worth checking out. Updates three times a week.

<a href=http://www.gogetaroomie.com/index.php?id=1>Go Get a Roomie is pretty interesting as well. Begins as a series of sex jokes but as time goes on delves deeper into the nature of human relationships, boundaries, love etc. Also adorable lesbians. Updates three times a week.

Oglaf is a delightful series of fantasy-universe jokes. Lot of it is nsfw. Updates once a week.

8-bit theatre is also great.

Standard recommendations:
*El Goonish Shive [http://www.egscomics.com]
*Whomp! [http://www.whompcomic.com/]
*Nedroid [http://nedroid.com/]
*Grrl Power [http://grrlpowercomic.com/]
*Rival Angels [http://www.rivalangels.com]
*Supernormal Step [http://www.supernormalstep.com]

In-Depth:
*El Goonish Shive is a long form comic involving transformational hijinks and science. Apparently gotten a lot of positive attention of how it's handled some sensitive issues, but I'm not too familiar with that whole thing.
*Whomp! Is a gag-a-day (not sure if it's daily. Probably not) comic about the life of Ronnie, an anime-loving, McNugget eating, self-hating comic artist. It's depressing and amusing all at once.
*Nedroid is one I've only recently picked up, so I'm not hugely familiar with it. It's very well written for a gag-a-day, and is quite quotable in my social circle, so take that for what it's worth.
*Grrl Power is a long form superhero (or superheroine, to be more accurate) comic whose main character ultimately boils down to a personification of TV Tropes. Seriously, "Genre Savvy" is probably one of her powers.
*Rival Angels is a long form story about (primarily) 4 women and the world of wrestling. If you're not a fan of pro-wrestling, this could be a tricky one to stick with, but in-universe kayfabe is reality, and women's wrestling is as popular (or moreso, I can't even remember if it's ever come up) as men's.
*Supernormal Step is a long form comic about a person from our "normal" universe pulled into a parallel one that has magic, and her journey in maybe trying to get home but working on "what it means to be a hero" in the meantime. Also they've never heard of a lot of great music there.
