So, I am a huge procastinator. Whatever the thing is(making new friends, asking a girl out, homework, applying for a job) I wait until either the last minute, or until it's too late. Is there a way that I can stop myself from procrastinating? It really screws up my life, but I still can't stop. Right now, I'm supposed to be reading the rest of a book, and writing an essay but instead I thought "I'll wait until night because I write better when under pressure" which is untrue...

8:44Still haven't done the essay-and most of my grade is depending on it. *sigh* I'll do it tommorow before class...probably
12:22Didn't complete essay and now I'm thinking of a good exscuse why I didn't do it and now I'll need to cram it tommorow with a loss of percentage...
2:00 So luck was on my side and now the essay is due tommorow. Cramming it in tonight-thanks for all of the ideas though--keep em coming :D

Huge procastinator? Tch, amateur.

Draft a to-do list, then make a good number of PHYSICAL copies, placing them where you cannot avoid them as you go about your business. Constant reminders will provide focus.

I think it is a attitude adjustment. I used to procrastinate alot, but now I try and finish all my responsibilities so I have time for myself at the end which I guess I learned at job. Really can't procrastinate too much there especially when I have managerial duties.

Cut power to your house, light candles, then read.

Then write your essay by candle light. Like in ye olden times.

Or, barring that, set up a schedule for yourself, and try to have someone re-enforce it. Trust me, you tend to get to work when you know your stuff is on the line.

Create an incentive. Promise yourself you'll go out for Pizza if you finish the work with time to spare, and don't buy the pizza if you procrastinate or fail to finish it for example.

I've tried but then I give in and do that incentive. Once I told myself I'd go out and buy a game only if I completed (insert thingy here) so I bought it first and then played it all day...

Wrong incentive.

Keep yourself constantly busy with something constructive. Got an assignment due in two days do it immediately then do any other work then when there is finally no more school work if its not time to sleep start cleaning. Just keep coming up with things thats on that to do list, from talking to people through chat to doing that side reading you wanted to do.

Even things you've put off for other activities that aren't necessarily constructive should be farther up on your to do list then lets say escapist.

Right now i'm facing similar problems and i just can't seem to get myself in line even tho the above has worked for me in the past. I guess i'm gonna start getting my head screwed on straight when i quit smoking... which should be soon.

One tactic that I'm actually using right now (and may actually lead me to handing in my work a day before the deadline *shock shock horror horror*) is just not cutting my nails until the work is done, and I frakking hate long nails, so I have more of an incentive to do the work.

two things, force yourself to do it which feels like ripping out a chunk of your body or you can take the power cord out of the back of your computer so you are not distracted, I know you and others won't want to believe it but the computer is probably a main source for your procrastination, if you can go a week without it then you won't be procrastinating so much.
