So on a whim, I decided to purchase Mega Man 9 off of Xbox Live today. I've been sitting here for the better part of an hour trying to play this game, and here are my results so far

Robot Masters Beaten: 0 1.

Game Overs Gotten: 7 8.

Amount of money owed to my Sister's "Swear Jar": over $70 $84.

This game is one of the most frustrating games i've ever experienced, but not because of bad game design, it is just Very Hard, which is only increased by the fact that I REFUSE to look up boss order, something a sensible person would ordinarily do.

Has anyone else had an experience with a game like this one, something your not very good at but are unable to put down?

EDIT: UPDATED STATS! You fought bravely, Galaxy Man, but not bravely enough.

Quite often. I call myself quite a hardcore gamer, been playing since I was 6. I'm now 20 and constantly feel like I've not improved as a gamer, because I always seem to get stuck on games
I always get my ass kicked on MW2 online and I picked up Demon's Souls the other day (I know it's meant to be brutally hard) and found the first level a total breeze, got the demon soul, then got immediately stuck on the second world/level/thing, not being able to get past a trio of rabid dogs
I also got stuck on Dragon Age earlier but refused to give up because I would not let myself move the difficulty down to 'casual'. I did eventually get unstuck and felt awesome for it

Ah the good old days where developers hated players with a burning passion so every enemy was an insta-kill and the level was a timed maze. Not that long ago I replayed Sonic 2 a beloved game from my childhood, and realised just how hard it was. Games like Silver Surfer take this to the next level however.

ArmA 2. If RL war is anything like it it's just as well I'm in the Reserves.

I'm terrible at FPS games, but I still play them with friends when we hang out.

Also I keep getting my ass kicked in Dragon age origins at various parts, even on easy.

There are too many on the NES to name them all...but I'll throw a couple out there:
Battletoads
Solomon's Key
Holy Diver
Ghosts n Goblins
Ninja Gaiden(all of them)

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 advertises that there are "no time limites to hold you back."

Everything, from free skate to every single mission ever, has a time limit. Some of them are downright unreasonable. I have to collect all the purple hippos in (i think) 13 seconds or so. Why? Is Ollie the Magic Bum in some kind of hurry!?

Not the hardest game but it pissed me off to no end.

"I Wanna Be The Guy" anyone?

The only game I have never managed to beat. I tried it for about an hour before yelling "Fuck this!" and logging back on to DDO.

As before mentioned, Sonic 2. Now this game was just evil! (Evil in a steep difficulty curve way, not sheer I Wanna Be the Guy Difficulty)

If you have played the first Sonic game before going into this one then you would expect it to have a fairly moderate difficulity curve. Wrong! This game starts off with two very easy acts. By the time Scene 2 Act 2 rolls around, you're trying to navigate a series of incredibally difficult jumps from moving platform to moving platform where if you fall you don't die instantly. Something much much worse happens. You fall into the bottom of the level, which has been flodded with water andall you can do is run around until you see your beloved Sonic drown to death.

... And things get much worse from there.

Also Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening on the PS2 was just ludacris. I made it to the third level on Dante Must Die difficulty and felt like smashing my controller into the ground.

yeahh i just got star wars jedi knight: jedi academy

played it on easy, just to enjoy the game and enjoy the badasseness of being a jedi, so i could rock shit like no other

for the most part of the game. i did enjoy this, then i come up against these tank like storm troopers, with rocket/plasma cannons that come randomly around random corners, blow me the FUCK away in about 3 hits, and they always come in pairs and it takes me a good 4 hits of lightsaber or so to get em down each, so those killed me a few decent times throughout the game (luckily the save feature works decently so i saved a bazillion times throughout the game)

and idk what to call them..but the dual wielding armored dark side users, god dammit they were such a pain in the ass sometimes, the fighting style was free flow but its real pre mature compared to some of todays stuff, so trying to combo or know which move to do seems nonlogical in these lightsaber duals, so occasionally (mind you this is on easy mode, and there are 3 more difficulties after this) i would beat him in about 3-5 hits while sometimes it could last a good 25-40 lightsaber swings/sporadic attacks while dodging, in which he usually would go into rape mode and own me

oh and anytime they were using a double bladed lightsaber, they would run at me and do a 360 fan attack where the thing would spin like crazy around them so i would usually get KO'd by that..

and i thought originally to myself "hmm..i can just use that sweet rocket launcher plasma thing i picked up on em!" so pull that out and launch from a good 20 yards away, of course they have some kind of invisible force shield on them and it bounces off directy back at me and kills me, same goes for thermal detonators and the works, so you have to basically destroy them in lightsaber battle to have a chance

odd thing is..the final two bosses that are right in a row, i beat in 2 tries, while some other dark jedi battles took me a good 10-15 times to get it right..

now that was a long rant..but jesus i was on easy mode, i should NOT be having that much trouble wih dark jedi!
