Some of you may remember Shadow Warrior reboot that was released some time back. A game by Flying Wild Hog, this reboot managed to capture the feel of a bygone era of shooters and produce a strange paradox: It was a shooting game where the first weapon you got was not only completely viable, but the most fun thing to use in the game. Granted, the other weapons were by no means bad but there was a certain primal urge satisfied by slicing and dicing hordes of demons with only a sword.

Seeing release on next gen consoles recently, the studio has since done one better and announced a whole new game that carries on from where the last game left off. Plot details are scarce, but from what can be inferred from the trailer it looks like Lo Wang's actions in the last game have put him on the shit list, most likely, of his former employer Orochi Zilla. Thankfully, Lo Wang isn't alone in this venture but he's going to need all the help he can get to fight off this new foe.

So, thoughts? I admit I'm a bit uneasy about the mention of the Co-op mode, but as long as it doesn't overshadow the main campaign i suppose it would be a nice add-on. Provided they do it right. Then again, Flying Wild Hog haven't disappointed yet and I'm looking forward to hacking some more demons up.

I still haven't finished the first on PS4 yet. The levels seem to drag and feel so long at times. I also feel it could be funnier as well, it doesn't quite have that 80s magic to me. But, I'm totally down for more Shadow Warrior. I really hope you don't to have to relearn all the shit from the 1st game. I really hate when sequels take away all the skills/abilities you learn in the previous game(s).

Shadow Warrior is one of the best shooters that I've played in 26 years of my life. I cannot wait for another one.

Meh.

The last game was kinda... not that great.

Yeah, Wang is fun and all, but the gameplay was sludge. I just remember a endless blur of slightly overlong levels in which I spammed the same stab move over and over and over and over upon realizing that it was many times more effective than everything else.

That and a story about some actually kinda neat and interesting demonic intrigue that was utterly irrelevant for 99.9999% of the game's duration.

Bleh, I hope for massive improvement. I wanted to like Shadow Warrior, but it was just crippled by flaws at every level, from the gameplay level where it was dragged down by limited enemies with limited variety and excessive health plus 90% of the non-sword weapons being useless, to the grating repetitive level design, to the tonally inconsistent and cluttered story. But I stress that I really wanted to like SW, so I hope they can take this chance to fix a lot of the flaws from the original.

I really enjoyed the Shadow Warrior reboot, though it was by no means perfect. It couldn't seem to decide on a tone: it often went for tongue-in-cheek goofy, but then turned ultra serious and sometimes even sad all of the sudden. Also, the last level did drag on way too long.

I'd say:
-Re-balance the weapon upgrade system so that being a primarily gun-toting character is as viable as being a Swordsman.
-More human-like enemies with guns. The reboot had some, but they were basically a joke to fight. In the original game there were gun-wielding baddies and demons you had to contend with. This would break up the monotony of fighting mostly melee enemies all the time.
-Bring back the Railgun.
