ok, if you dont know what negima is, stop whatever it is youre doing right now, go to www.onemanga.com and get reading! if you do know, then read on

fact is, i know literally one person in the whole world who reads negima so needless to say that gets pretty damn lonely, so the point of this thread is discussion!! what do you like about it? what dont you like? (specifically the previously released chapter). I was a bit dissapointed cos i was expecting more demon negi fighting action but im glad akamatsu's still got plans for the world tree!

oh and if this catches on there'll be another thread when the next chapter is released

You are certainly not the only one sharing that fate, but please do not go into a Forum and brag about it too much. It will not incite discussion, not for long anyway. There are many internet entities for that, I believe.

Negima is great, because of the art and love that Ken Akamatsu puts into it. It is amazing, because it is a series, where the fanservice is not distracting but actually commiting to the greater cause. It is great, because there is so much variaty of characters and magic. Though it is getting a little boringly over the top lately and the latest developments didn't really shock me at all, but hey... it's still an awesome Manga. It was the second Manga Series I started to read. That was 5 years ago. I kind of ... lose interest.

Also: Spoilers.

Same here, but that's only logically, isn't it? But as I said, I am currently not really into it. Kind of had to abandon my whole Manga/Anime Hobby for a couple of months. It shall return though.

There are many great other series out there (Ga-Rei, Nurarihyon no Mago, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, ...) and you could visit MyAnimeList for persons with the same interests. There are a lot of Negima readers out there. Go and catch 'em.

I know a lot of people that love Negima.

I though it was ok.

I dropped a long time ago because the fanservice became too much for me.(one scene in particular)

Iv been meaning to pick it back up because ma few of my friends have said they it starts to balance the Fanservice out with the other aspects of the Story.

Negima is freakin' sweet. It's like DBZ with (more) tits. Of course they're (virtually) all underage, which kind of puts a damper on things.

What I like most about Negima is that it has a very balanced tone. It has enough lightheartedness to stay upbeat, and enough serious aspects to not become saccharine.

Too bad they never made a worthy Anime adaptation. That would have been epic if they had done it right.

EDIT: The fanservice does get a little exasperating at times. However, unlike Love Hina, Negima gradually shifts the focus from fanservice to fantasy action, which makes the story a lot more interesting.

EDIT 2: Oh yeah, and the shotacon stuff is probably going to rub a lot of people the wrong way. Enjoying a series like Negima pretty much requires that you suspend some of the negative feelings such things might engender.

I remember reading a review for Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha where the (female, I think) reviewer said that, despite the merits of the story, characters, and action, she couldn't watch the series because she found the gratuitous underage-magic-girl's-clothes-disappear-and-she's-completely-naked-ohmygod transformation sequences so reprehensible that she couldn't bring herself to watch it.

I was kind of put off by it the first time I watched it too, because it is pretty damned exploitative and unnecessary, but the story had me hooked by that point to the extent that any moral outrage I had didn't stop me from watching. Maybe I'm just better at shrugging those things off (when the subject matter is a fictional animated character) than some people.

Or maybe I'm secretly a huge perv. Just sayin'... it's a possibility.

It's... not the worst? I'm sorry, I've never really gotten into Negima.

Mr. Akamatsu's cool and all, but I just don't like the way he tells a battle manga. Sure, it's action packed, and reasonably intelligent, but but there's something about it that just irks me. Not the fanservice, mind you (I did read and enjoy Love Hina and To Love Ru), but... something reeks of, "oh, don't pay attention to us, it's not like we have SCANTILY CLAD TEENAGE GIRLS TRYING TO ELOPE WITH A TEN YEAR OLD BOY AND OH LOOK A POSSIBLE LESBIAN COUPLE. (I think. Did Konoka and Setsuna end up together yet, or what?)

So, not so much the actual fanservice, so much as the advertising using fanservice, if that makes any sense.

Still, there are many worse series, and I can understand why people could (legitimately) enjoy it.

i thought the whole, class falling in love with a ten year old was pretty funny at times and yet it was also pretty touching aswell in yue and nodokas cases (them probably being the only ones ACCUALLY in love with him) as for setsuna and konoka, i think kononka knows how setsuna feels but just doesnt quite "swing that way" to quote love hina, they have formed a pactio though, with knoka as the magister

One Manga shrinks images, altering the image quality. Akamatsu's art isn't anything all that special though, so if you only want to read it once through, than it doesn't really matter where you read it.

That said, it is quite well written.

You need to read more series.
I do. That's why I am not really interested in Negima anymore. It's gotten a little old.
