I suspect its a reference (sounds much better than blatantly stole) to the Sargasso Sea of Space which appeared in the British comic strip Dan Dare. Gaiman is of an age were he would have grown up with them.

I can see Gaiman being able to pen a great Doctor Who episode. Yes he usually sticks to a theme with his stuff but he's also a big geek.
Not to mention that Amy and Rory are a perfect fit for the average Gaiman story. Scrappy little pixie of universal importance and her goofy, bumbling, and endlessly loyal boyfriend? yeaaah.

Now i just need to...

Ahh, if only my exams didn't start on litterally the same day as the first episode. No matter, I'll just tape it all and have myself a marathon.

Oooh, that would be cool. Though, A Sargasso Sea is generally just where thing naturally tend to arrive, after drift/currents drop them off. I'm not familiar with the specific British reference you mention, but it certainly has promise.

Oh, I forgot about those.

Meeeeeeeeh!

Seriously, not my thing. I liked Neverwhere, but everything he does just... lacks something for me. 1602 was alright. American Gods could have been half as long and better for it. Sorry. Guess I'll be a filthy Gaimanless heathen 'til the end of my days.

Remnants of the Time War? Broken Tardis? Demolished Dalek Ships? Broken pieces of the Citadel? Dead Gods? A dying Timelord?
What Could It Be?
Timelords have already had their look-in, it's time for someone else. BUT WHO???
Omega? That's the popular theory at the moment.

OT: SQUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! 3 more god damn days! Why must there be no real life TARDIS for me to get there faster?!?

Space graveyard? Yeh that sounds cool. Doctor falling in love? No, no, no, no. The best thing about the last series was the fact the Doctor didn't fall in love with everyone he met and I even think the whole thing with the Doctor refusing Amy's advances was a dig at Russel T davies love every companion bollocks Doctor who.

I hope he falls in love and out of it as fast as is possible.

Also Matt Smith is a fantastic Doctor, and the relationship between him, Rory and Amy is wonderfully realised. Looking forward to more of the same.

I'm really looking forward to the new season. Just to know that new Doctor Who is coming, and BBC America won't be four weeks behind this year makes me happy.

Shame it's Matt Smith and not someone better looking.
I know right? He's a fantastic Doctor acting wise but ugh, god the man's a troll in the looks department. Tennant, on the other hand, was just universally sexy. Women wanted him and guys wanted to be him.

With Tennant I just wanted him :p!! (Im not even gay, he was that good looking) but I'm sure he's a good actor but fuck....I just can't look at him. Plus I thought Tennant's partners were MUCH better.

I'm not surpised you haven't heard of Dan Dare, he appeared in the Eagle comic that ran from 1950 to 1969 and from 1984 to 1994. So if your not British and or over 30 you not going to know it. However the Eagle influence is huge, the first description of Captain Jack (torchwood) was of having the Jaw line of Dare and the smile of bastard. Dave Gibbions (Watchmen artist) sites Dare as major influence and one of the X-men writers (cant remember which one) also is fan.

I have to agree. I'm just now going through Eccleston/Tennant-era Who, and the constant emphasis on the romantic angle just seems very odd to me; first with Rose, and then right back into it with Martha. It doesn't make any sense.

Doctor Who has always been as much about characters and relationships as about ideas and rubber monsters, but is romantic love the only emotion that the writers can use to interest the audience? Girl in the Fireplace was a great episode, but it's the sort of thing you can't really do over and over again.

I'm reminded of the conclusion of On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Bond was always a womanizer, which is what made the ending of that film different than just about every other Bond flick. You can only pull that trick once.

This news suddenly makes me happier, I needed something like this to help recover from hearing about Lis Sladens passing :(

This series is going to be great. Briliant writers, amazing location shoots and some pretty sweet guest stars. Role on Saturday.

Why is nearly every episode a "gamechanger"? it's like we're supposed to think these episodes are epic simply because we're told they are. Just write a good episode, we'll decide if they're epic enough.
Because it's much easier to have everyone say something is epic than, you know, making it epic. It's the old writer's rule: "tell, don't show". Telling is harder than showing, and alienates stupid people, which TV execs seem to believe are the only ones with TV.
