Nerdcore Artist Recommendations (even if I have heard/mentioned it beforehand)

Alright! It's November and one of the things I tend to do the most this month is listen to as much nercore rap as I can... Why? I forgot... I think I've been doing this for about 10 years, though... Anyway, I'll list the artists that I tend to listen to the most, in terms of nerdcore, and then you guys can chime in on other nerdcore artists (or ones I'v listed) I should also be listening to as well... Hopefully, I don't end up recognizing them in the most awkwardest way possible, in my opinion... (Example: "Wait... They did THAT song??? I didn't know that! Huh... The more you know...")

Since I want to keep my list short and sweet, I'll just list the ones that I have the most songs from, meaning the more dominant nerdcore artists on one of my Ipods:

MC Frontalot and mc chris: The reason why I mention these two together is that these are the only nerdcore artist I really do not remember how I was introduced to them... I do remember Frontalot doing a commercial spot for G4 back in the day (which made me nerdgasm when I first saw it) and chris did do a performance on G4 (I forgot which song he performed, though), but not how I ended up listening to these two to begin with... It's weird, but I'm not too concerned about it... or actually find that aspect of my musical experience "weird"... (That's another story...)

The Adventures of Duane and Brando: After randomly stumbling on their Sonic song before they redid it the "first" time, I have been listening to the duo of 8-bit Duane and The Amazing Brando ever since... and, at the time of finding them, waiting for their big Earthbound EP was TOTALLY worth it... (Still waiting for that Super Metroid EP, though...)

Richie Branson: Shortly after the rumor of Toonami's return, I stumbled upon Richie's Toonami rap and that lead to his other anime raps, most of which from shows I remember watching from my childhood (Gundam) and/or on my own time (Gurren Lagann), which just sweeten the deal for me...

...with Honorable Mentions going to Ichigekikai (aka Killing Spree), since I've only listened to his instrumental modern hip-hop remixes of mostly anime music, and Tay Zonday...

So, are there any other nerdcore artists, famous or not (or at least YouTube famous), I can also listen to? (I won't judge either way...)

No idea what nerdcore is, old boy, but have you heard of Chap-Hop? Mr. B The Gentleman Rhymer and Professor Elemental seem to be the foremost proponents of the ouvre.

I'm not hugely into any genre of music, so I'm somewhat surprised to note that I can actually offer a recommendation you haven't listed yet.

Dan Bull is a British guy who mostly raps about video games. I like his stuff, but I think it can get a bit repetitive.

Schaffer the Dark Lord is pretty fun to listen to because of his super twisted sense of humour.

I really like Random's work with the Megaman series but was a little lukewarm on his Final Fantasy VII album.

A friend of mine is really into nerdcore and has made a couple of mixes, here's his most popular, you might find something you really like on it.

I'm not really clear what Nerdcore is, but you should totally look up Metroid Metal. Oh and XOC if you want to hear incredibly well done covers of Mario or Kirby tunes.

1. Nerdcore, mainly associated with hip-hop at first, involves music that references the nerd culture in some way... From comics to movies to video games to anything else nerd-related, this style of music taps into that in musical form... MC Frontalot coined the term and other artist, like Miracle of Sound (to name someone more escapist-related relevant to where this forum resides), expand on that particular sub-genre of music...
2. I have heard of Chap-hop as well as other sub-genres of that nature ending in the phrase "-hop"... Those songs you listed I have heard before and I have yet to go further with either of those artist's work... (I should do that now, actually...)

I have heard some of Dan Bull's raps... I'm actually quite fond of the one you linked as well as his Rayman Legends rap... His "repetitive"-ness doesn't really bother me, though...

Noted! The Metroid Metal should crave my lack of the Super Metroid EP from Duane and Brando... and I can never have too many Mario or Kirby covers... (Seriously, some of the one-shot artists on my Ipod have done covers from either Mario or Link in some way... with only a few of them "questionable" at best, actually...)

I'm surprised I forgot to mention Deltron 3030, the "Gundam Rock" album by Andrew WK, and None Like Joshua... I swear, my Ipod needs a serious update on its nerdcore tacklist... thus causing another backstory for this thread... kind of... (Also, don't forget Doom's other personas... Like Danger Doom or JJ Doom...)


Anyway, thank you guys so much for the recommendations! I needed more variety in my nerdcore playlist, so I'm glad to be listening to artists that either I forgot about or haven't been listening to already...

Happy to help. Nerdcore has become my absolute favorite genre of music. I hardly listen to anything else anymore. I find that a lot of the lyrics (particularly MoS and Dan Bull) tend to be a lot more clever and meaningful than most mainstream music nowadays.

MC Lars/Nerdcore article snip

After listening to Flow Like Poe, it reminded me of this one episode of Regular Show... and I wasn't alone on that...
As far as that article's concern, it was a great read overall... I almost forgot about mc chris's "disconnection" with the nerdcore label and how nerdcore, as one of the other commenters on that article pointed out, is more "truer" to its name than some of the other labels associated with hip-hop or rap...

Happy to help. Nerdcore has become my absolute favorite genre of music. I hardly listen to anything else anymore. I find that a lot of the lyrics (particularly MoS and Dan Bull) tend to be a lot more clever and meaningful than most mainstream music nowadays.

Nerdcore is my third most favorite genre to listen to, with anything alternative at #2 (always referring to Gorillaz as an example) and anything Anime/Japanese-related at #1... The only other genres that round out my top 5 favorites, at least, are songs from the 20th Century (contemporary music?) and classical music (like Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach), with an honorable mention going to any song that Adult Swim uses for their bumps, music mashups, and ponies...
I mean, a good chunk of the songs I listen to on a daily basis have that lyrical cleverness and/or intriguing melodies that I enjoy in music, in general... and the fact that I can only listen to mainstream music (at least the more 21st Century-centered music) through a music "mashup" is both sad and funny to me...

Seriously, I've listened to Beefy's Nerdcore For Life through my uncle's nerdcore mixtape as well as hearing Revenge of the Nerds in my uncle's car that one time my cousins and I went to Six Flags... But, for the longest time, I have been listening to that one Crazy Crackaz song since my uncle gave me that particular nerdcore mixtrack I just mentioned and did not put 2 and 2 together UNTIL NOW!! *ultimate facepalm at self*
Also, when I had some of my friends (who were more into Earthbound than I was at the time) listen to Da Black Market, they had a hard time grasping how awesome a song it was... (and apparently, it was Flik's part that was my favorite from that particular song...)


OH MY GLOB! Once again, thank you all for the nerdcore recommendations... Finally had my mind blown when finding out about one of the one-shot nerdcore artists I had on my Ipod already because of my own uncle... And now, I have to make (more) room on my Ipod...
