To be honest, not being available in HD is a bit of a screwup, isn't it? It would pull a lot more people if it was very high quality if you ask me.
Yes, NetFlix will get right on re-engineering the Nintendo Wii from the ground up.
Or you could try thinking about what I mean and consider they could have approached one or all of the other consoles as well or instead.

Cup half empty?

I wish we had netflix in Canada. But you know, a good version. (all the knockoffs here are way too expensive)

It's odd you know, every friend I know who has a "hardcore gaming console" (PS3 or 360) has a standard definition TV, while everyone I know who has a Wii has a HD TV. Hopefully once they realise those standard definition movies coming from their Wii look like dirt they'll make the jump to a hardcore console and I'll have more buddies to play with.

The irony is delicious...Sony is quickly hobbling the PS3 while Nintendo just added something new for its fisherprice console to do. I loves it!
And not getting hi-def is not surprising, but being able to pull up a quick flick from an alternate source if your regular media fails you sounds like a win to me.
This would be cool if it helps to inspire Nintendo to upgrade the Wii to better resolutions.

Who says they didn't? Sony would have said no since they think the PS3 already does everything, and Microsoft would have had to consent to having third party software put into their clunky system. Doesn't XBox Live already have a movie service?

I got my disc from Netflix a couple of weeks* ago (I'd forgotten I'd signed up for one.) I was only interested because the XBL verison requires a Gold subscription which I let run out since I wasn't playing online and don't really care to. With the Wii, it''s free. I just need to get a USB adapter to run some Cat5 into it (the Wii has never workked with my wireless router.)

I don't care if it isn't in HD (I can always get the DVDs in like normal if I need it to be HD), it'll just be nice to stream to the big teevee instead of on my monitor or netbook.

*EDIT: I meant weeks, not years.

what Zombie said..

That would be like playing HALO on a SuperNES. Just doesn't quite sound right or powerful enough.

You're suggesting some sort of Netflix service or the 360? Why, that's crazy talk.
