Is it me [http://io9.com/5932374/first-concept-art-for-the-neuromancer-movie] or did this completely [http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmblog/2012/aug/02/liam-neeson-mark-wahlberg-neuromancer] fly under the radar [http://www.blastr.com/2012/08/official-long-delayed-neu.php]?

OK, maybe I live under a rock most of the time, but even last year, I don't recall seeing anything discussed around here, whether in OTD or the News Room, but how is this not more anticipated?!

We are, of course, talking about the adaptation of what is probably the quintessential book by one of the daddies of cyberpunk. So... what gives?

I'd assume it's due to the contractual issues with Wahlberg and Neeson. They both have very tight film schedules for 2013, and didn't seem to garnish the contractual agreements with the filmmakers.

So either the filmmakers choose some new titular characters, or they keep delaying the film til Neeson and Wahlberg accept.

Yea I didn't see these either. Then again, I tend to avoid movie news most of the time. It's a shame they don't really show much. It's been ages since I read it so... the dude with the tattoo, who's that supposed to be?

I've heard about it, but only that it existed. This makes me rather interested. I'm not really worried about the budget as there aren't any huge set pieces or anything like that in the book, so kinda low grade CG for the hacking sections is all they'd need. Wahlberg is a questionable fit though. He could probably pull it off, but it would be a rather odd take on the character unless they make him look a bit less healthy.

I usually hear about movies after they come out (including the Avengers and...that last James Bond one I forget the name of), so no wander I haven't heard of it. Unless it's something directly told to me (like this thread), I don't tend to seek out information elsewhere.

I want this to happen now.

Wahlberg is also too old, Case was in his late 20s/early 30s in the book not his mid 40s. Neeson, again, is pushing it age wise and Armitage isn't that big of role. Casting Neeson in that role feels like they have to big an actor for the role and is likely to overshadow the more important role of Molly.

I don't think age is much of an issue. It's pretty easy to make someone look ten to twenty years older or younger in Hollywood. And Neeson can play supporting roles well enough. He just hasn't lately.
