is this the second time in one week where someone thought advertising another site would be a good idea. I'll give you a hint about what happened to the last person, something happened that involved a hammer that started with a "B".

I.. can't see this ending well I'm afraid. For all the merits of the website you've linked, this is seen as advertising which most people here are opposed to.

In response to it however, no. I don't know that individual.

How ironic. Most of you would have come here from advertisement from another website. Even if its just the posting up of a ZP video on some forum, thats advertisement. I think that here someone is able to recommend a good game, movie, music artist or even website. I mean isn't that the whole pointy of user reviews? I think that if someone wants to tell us about a sweet website they found, they should. I highly doubt that "TheHorizon" is being paid for this and I don't think he's any sort of robot so it really is just a recommendation.

Maybe the Escapist loses money from people doing this but I think that as long as the thing being recommend is a website or feature that cannot possible pay for advertisement on the Escapist no one is losing any money and we get to witness some great stuff.

If you don't have the money, you don't get the ad space. Its that simple.

Wait, hold up a bit. By that logic we can't post links to Youtube video because the director hasn't paid the Escapist for the ad space. We can't post reviews because doing so would draw attention to something that hasn't paid for the space. The Newsroom would have to stop using linking to references and hence lose all credibility. The Indie Developers Showcase (I assume the developers don't pay for their games to be shown) will have to be closed down. A ton of articles will have to be deleted because the things featured in those article don't pay the Escapist money. Zero Punctuation will have to end because he isn't being paid by game publishers. Even De Rez and Unforgotten Realms will need to be shut down to because the bring attention (read: advertisement) to different things. Gaming Discussion will have to be closed because they aren't paying to talk about their favourite games.

Advertisement is more than the banners and a box in the corner. Advertisement is talking about anything outside the Escapist. It may not as be as flashy or in your face as the stuff that is paid for but it is definitely there. I don't understand why this guy showing us a website he likes is frowned down on while someone describing a game they like is considered to be great and not at all advertisement.

Well, do you go into a public area and start shouting and holding signs about something you like?
No.
Do you mention things you like in casual conversation?
Yes.

There's the difference. No true line between the two, but its pretty obvious by people's reactions here when people cross it.
