I bought neverwinter nights 2, and it seemed quite boring. I played for 2 hours and the controls seemed wonky, and they seemed to switch constantly.
My question, dear escapists, is does the game improve over time? I am on edge to keep playing.

Edit: Class: Fighter
The controls switched with the character not being able to turn with a and d instead had to be turned with q and e.

I bought it as well recently. Personally, at first I thought it was pretty boring but after a I got a few hours in (although I tried a couple of different characters before I actually settled on a decent one) it started to get more interesting. Haven't played a whole lot of it lately, I've been distracted by a lot of games. To fix the camera, I zoomed it out almost all the way, and played it sort of top down, only rotating the camera when necessary. It takes some tweaking.

I heard the expansion (Mask of the Betrayer) was quite good though.

hmm idk, there are lots of reasons as to why you aren't enjoying it, but for my input:

i had just bought it over the winter steam sale, and i literally just beat the main campaign a good couple hours ago, but i fucking loved the game. (put a good 80 hours into it already...)

for the switching, there are three different views, personally i always do the overhead one that stays on the character you are controlling at the moment, but there is also "exploration" mode and i think "character" mode

just mess with the controls a bit till you get to know them, personally by at about halfway through the game i was spitting out commands faster than i could talk, so i think it just takes some getting used to.

It is. And in fact, I recommend to pretty much everyone I talk to about this game (and the OP), just skip the main campaign and go straight to Mask of the Betrayer. For some reason it also fixes the weird camera swooshing bug you get in character mode.

Also OP, you have to realize this game is based off of DnD rules, those don't transfer very well to an electronic medium and retain much of its inherent charm. You kind of have to be in it for the story. Or just play a sorcerer and throw fireballs around. That's fun too.

just curious, i beat the main campaign, can i export my character or whatever into the mask of betrayer? if so would you recommend it? if not what would you recommend for a good build for that expansion?

Yes and yes.

It is a continuation of your characters story, albeit not really connected to the main campaign. For example, while genral mentions are made of characters and events in your past, these references do not change (at least that I noticed) based off of your characters actions, and have no impact on the Mask of the Betrayer story. So if you think it will add immersion to play as the same character, go ahead. If you think just knowing the story is enough but want to try out a new class or something, that works fine too.

In term of builds, I'll be honest I'm not an expert on those. I've beaten Mask 3 times, Once as a Sorcerer, Monk and a Favored Soul, all 3 of which get increasingly powerful if you stay with those classes. I'd check the guides here [http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/939027-neverwinter-nights-2-mask-of-the-betrayer/faqs] for information on what builds you might want to check out for your character.

alright cool, yeah i get what you mean, i wouldn't expect a game that old to actually import decisions into the expansion based off what you chose.

yeah i've noticed with qara the sorcerers get ridiculously OP overtime if you use them right =\ i might have to try that class

my current build which i just finished with was a dual wielding swashbuckler gone knights of the nine for the last 8 levels or so of leveling, it worked out decent enough but i was getting butt pounded by a few bosses if i didn't have my absolute best party so i might try a sorceress or a favored soul.
