So, I'm a Richard D James fan, but I don't really spend the time following music like I used to. In investigating what one of my old favorite composers has been up to, it seems that in since he split with WARP records most of his effort has gone towards his self-owned Reflex Records 'Analord' 10 volume LP box... But what then?

I'd heard speculation he was going to do another album for WARP, but that never seemed to come to be and seems increasingly less likely. I also heard he didn't plan on releasing music anymore, which I figured would hold for awhile until he wanted some more scratch.

Anyway, now (most agree) writing music under the name The Tuss and releasing music on his own Rephlex Records, here's a clip of new AFX/RDJ.

Other tracks off this album take a different direction, but for the most part it's what you'd expect from him hybridizing the styles of meticulous programming on Druqks and the worbly analog acid goodness of Analord.

For your enjoyment and discussion.

______

Also, for you drummers out there, here's a clip of some mad bastard drumming along to the first above track.

I'm terribly sorry, but this sounds very bad to me.
Scratches with keyboard and drums in the background... I just don't like it. Furthermore, it hurts my ears. I'm 16 and it sounds... nothing like music.
I know that taste varies, but I find it hard for me to imagine someone else enjoying this, even though I am responding to a fan at the moment.

EDIT: Awww hell....

-'Rephlex's co-founder, Grant Wilson-Claridge, stated in an e-mail interview that The Tuss is not Richard D. James. He said:

People seem more interested in speculation and celebrity than content, quality or music. Be careful you don't miss something really great that isn't really famous.[8]

In the same interview he also stated that:

There are so many good records out there; just support the artists providing the entertainment you love with your purchase of a new original edition in decent proportion to your usage of it. There are also tons of legends, myths, rumours, and fallacies that arise and become publicly accepted as truth, and maybe that's one reason that so much of contemporary opinion is too far from the ideal.'-

I'm not holding my breath here. Now I will need to find another pic to represent my mood...
I wouldn't put much stock in that. RDJ lies personally or through correspondants to the press a LOT, including denying things he's made, and straight up fabricating things just to fuck with people for lulz.

Anyway, for my part, I think it's RDJ-sounding and great.

It's RDJ, just like AFX, Blue Calx, Bradley Strider, Caustic Window, DJ Smojphace, GAK, Martin Tressider, Polygon Window, Power-Pill, Prichard D. Jams, Q-Chastic, Tahnaiya Russell, The Dice Man, Soit-P.P. - Man uses a lot of pen names.

So... back to your first pic, dude :)

It was around your age that I fell in love with all this stuff and started listening to and writing electronic music with an experimental, industrial edge.

I can see though how this wouldn't be the best introduction to AFX. I doubt it will change your opinion, overall, but try these other tracks to see that he does quite a diverse spectrum of work.
