I haven't been a fan of most of the Marvel Avenger lead ins, except the first Iron Man and the Ed Norton Hulk, but I have been open to changing my mind about the Avengers movie just because it looks like dumb fun with decent acting, like a better Michael Bay movie. But then I saw this article on Film Drunk with a new Avengers clip attached.
To summarize, the clip is Black Widow talking to Bruce Banner about why they need him on the team, and Bruce being skeptical about how he'd be treated.
The acting is...less than I had expected. Scarlett Johansson's never blown me away but god if she isn't wooden as hell in this one. And Mark Ruffalo's too quick with his lines. Joss Whedon's gotten his reputation as a man with fast talking characters, and I think that works well with certain actors who have that persona, like Robert Downey Jr., Nathan Fillion, and Samuel L. Jackson. But there's certain characters were all the rapid-fire dialogue doesn't mesh well, like with Bruce here. The socially isolated and maladjusted super scientist is also quick-witted, eh Whedon?
Clips like this are definitely pushing me towards renting this one.
