Heya all recently both my laptops went kaput so I need to buy a new Pc/Laptop :-[

Unfortunately I am on a budget of around £300-450 so I am looking for as much bang for buck as possible so I am curious whether to go for a laptop or a pc.

I don't need a beast (nor can I afford one) but I want a system that can run games at a decent to high level.

I also have a friend who could build me a pc would that be the best option ?

Laptops that have integrated intel graphics cards can't handle modern 3d games at all so you need to take that into account. If you go for a desktop, an AMD APU based desktop is probably the best way to go. Do you have a screen and peripherals?

To be honest, you aren't going to get a decent gaming machine in a laptop with that budget. AMD's integrated graphics are better than Intel's but still not really good enough to run most games at more than maybe medium settings 720p, 30FPS. With the new console generation coming out, system requirements will also go up, and any budget laptop will quickly fall behind. With your budget, your best option is to build a desktop system, it won't be super high end on that budget, but at least it will be upgradeable, something that cannot be said with laptops. I would definitely recommend getting your friend to build a PC.

Yep, I would be using a television as a monitor which whilst not ideal it will do.

Ideally I would save up but due to being with out either laptop I need a replacement asap

This should be able to run most modern games at 720p with decent FPS and it's fairly upgradeable should you decide to add a dedicated graphics card in the feature. Availability might be a bit of an issue, but you should stick with the base components I recommended (CPU, Motherboard, PSU by a reputable brand).
