Maybe I'm missing something but they said this was a FPS that just features a co-op campaign. I don't know how that gets defined as a MOBA.
Probably because of how much that trailer looks like a MOBA.

How does it look like a MOBA? All I'm getting from these comments is that no one read the article and is just bringing up Colonial Marines and Duke Nukem again.

Call me stupid but I didn't think MOBA at all. I thought "Co-op shooter with lots of enemies to kill"

The trailer, is what I was referring to.

To the extent that I read the article, watched the trailer, then read the article 2 more times to see if I had simply glazed over the word MOBA.

Sure, nothing they're saying says MOBA, but that trailer looks like a MOBA. And thats probably why people are commenting such.

Though falling victim to you own accusations, the comments saying MOBA havent referenced Duke Nukem or Aliens CM at all. So you're right, at least one of us isnt reading.

If you're going to reply to me, please quote me.

And how does it look like a MOBA? I'm failing to spot this. Is it because there is a mixture of melee and ranged?

You may want to double check Mr.K's post.

One person =/= everyone just complaining about DN/A:CM.

It looks like a MOBA. Handful of characters with styles that dont look like they come from the same universe/setting, running and fighting from hordes of trashy mobs, while displaying combat which doesnt actually look involved(Yes yes, MOBA combat is involved from a technical standpoint, but I mean their general handling and animations arent hands on, they're click once for a result, and generally the animation which plays out is indicative of that).

Given, that doesnt mean it is a MOBA, it could just be an awful trailer. But we're talking about why people are responding this way, which is to say it looks like a MOBA. Plus the latest pushing trend IS fps MOBAs. Studios are trying to push them more, to bring something fresh to the concept of MOBA. (Which is odd, because we already had things like Monday Night Combat, but I guess it only counts as adding something fresh to the concept if a big studio does it?)

So, I will revise my comment to this:

This looks like a MOBA, or a really bloody terrible trailer.

It also doesn't equal no one talking about it.

I don't really see how not being from the same universe and setting automatically equals MOBA. Super Smash Bros wasn't a MOBA and neither are half the fighting games out there. Once again, how does this equal MOBA? How do you know it's not a hack and slash game like Torchlight or Diablo? Heck, it could be first person for all we know, there was that bit where we saw some first person action from the soldier. But the thing that really didn't convince me was that every single unique player was helping each other. None of them were fighting each other, and that's the meat of a MOBA. Why make a trailer for a MOBA around killing minions? It makes no sense.

Pushing trend is FPS MOBAs? Have to say I haven't even heard of one.

It may look like a MOBA, but the description clearly says it isn't.

This is true, but you discounted everyone who was saying it looked like a MOBA, based of the words of one user. And then didnt even quote that part of the statement, only the snipped quote.

Also, again, Im saying it looks like a MOBA. Might not be, but thats what I, and obviously some others have taken away from that trailer.

And technically speaking it doesnt say it isnt a MOBA. It just doesnt say it is.

I had a MOBA in my mind before even watching the trailer. A few flashpoints:

"frenetic first-person shooting with co-operative combat"

Notice the emphasis on co-operative combat, he's not saying co-op mode, co-op is front and center.

"As a genre-fused, hobby-grade, co-operative and competitive FPS..."

I know one fresh genre that's both co-operative and competitive at the same time... I wonder what genre this game will be infused with...

"an expansive collection of diverse heroes"
"If Borderlands 2 is a shooter-looter, Battleborn is a hero-shooter,"

Two mentions of "heroes." There's another genre that's known for diverse heroes, ones as colorful as the ones in the trailer.

Borderlands had very distinct characters with different skill trees and playstyles, there must be something special here to differentiate the Borderlands characters and these "Heroes." My assumption is Pitchford just didn't want to sound cheap and say "MOBA-Shooter."

For what it's worth, the wording does imply that there will be an actual story campaign, even if it seems like it'll still be co-op.

Now that you mention it, I wouldn't be surprised if this turned out to be exactly like Monday Night Combat.

Oh fuck off, Randy.

Seriously I hate when someone says shit like "....they are getting the best value in the business" because its YOUR game so of course YOU think it's worth the $60 price tag. Like how when you buy something in a pack and they say "Only $60 (a value of $100)" that is a complete load and they know it. Just cut the crap alright and don't act like your doing me a favor just because you say it is.

OT: the trailer looked nice but I'd have to see actual gameplay to make any real judgment on it. And I'll be the judge of if its the "best value" for myself thank you very much.

Seriously, Game designers, Please Evolve. Think about other things to do with Black Characters than make them soldiers.

You are the dream makers... Dream a little harder.
....Black? Guy looks pretty damn white to me. You could argue that he's hispanic or has a tan, but he sure as heck isn't black. Heck, the guy swinging the red swords has darker skin than him.
You might be right, but he's a lot like my skin tone. I might have jumped the gun, but with how character designs usually are... I kind of doubt it.
That's definitely a white dude with a beard and a really small head, just for the record. :)
Well, so far we have possibly Hispanic, My skin color (and I've been black all my life. It's on my birth certificate), A quadroon (I get to mark in my Journal that someone actually said that word today), and white.

Any more takers? No one said Mongolian yet.
When I said quadroon it was mostly a joke just to post that Archer clip, but if you say he looks like your skin colour (when its very clear that his has a rather white-ish skin tone) then your family seems to have some mixture of races in it, and even though I said quadroon as a joke (I really only ever heard it in Archer and it was my first time using it) it is close to its definition (I presume that you are probably not quadroon but mulatto, but then I couldnt post that Archer clip).

From Wikipedia:
Quadroon was used to designate a person of one-quarter African/Aboriginal ancestry, that is one biracial parent (African/Aboriginal and Caucasian) and one Caucasian parent; in other words, one African/Aboriginal grandparent and three Caucasian grandparents.

I am only presuming this since you say you are his skin tone (more close to white then black) and you identify yourself as black (at least one of your parents is likely black).

There is also the possibility that your moniter is screwed up and the character did indeed show up a lot darker in your screen (only you seemed to see him as black), its probably that and all that I said before doesnt really apply.

Out of interest this game was listed as an upcoming MOBA elsewhere on the internet, so there's that.
