I cant help but notice that despite being made my Trayarc not Iward the new CoD Black Ops s going to be charging PC users £35-£40 like its bastard cousin COD4:2.

It has always been my understanding that the difference in cos between PC and console games was down to the porting costs and licensing fees. If this is still true how is the CoD franchise justifying charging £10 more than the going rate (IE every other PC game ever excusing only CoD4:2), which, if my above statement holds true, goes straight into their pockets as profit.

Now, if someone can tell me where this additional cost is coming in to justify the extra cost, I will cool off somewhat, but this is a somewhat worrying trend if it continues.

Opinions? Clarifications? What are your feelings on this Escapist?

EDIT: This should probably be in Gaming discussions. Can a mod move pls.

DELICIOUS MONEY, ACTIVISION WILL DEVOUR.

That's your answer, basically. That's why MW2, SC2, and CODBLOPS are £40 on PC launch but basically all other PC games are still £30. Of course now that Activision have shown PC gamers WILL pay that much, many other companies are realising and adjusting their prices up accordingly. Still, most of them will generally have a sale at some point or whatever which brings their prices back down from £stupid. There's no reason for it other than 'we're paying so much for our advertising that we need to put the price up to pay for it!'

If everyone starts doing this I can see myself buying far less games in futures, especially since the PC second hand market is non-existent.

This is why I'm like a hawk: circling over steam, waiting for the first sign of weakness a sale. 'tis awesome, I got left 4 dead for like 18 euro only a couple of months after it was out.

Ive never bought anything on steam. Generally because Play.com (UK only atm really) avoid a lot of the import taxes and only employ like 200 staff new release games are generally marginally cheaper on their than even sale prices on steam. This is what first set me off on this. Its rare for Play to have even new games over £30 (Civ V is currently £25, as is FFXIV and FIFA 11), and they have Black Ops up for £35 with an RPP of £40

People have proved they're willing to pay stupid money, therefore producers can charge stupid money. That's all there really is to it.

I don't know what you people have there in the 'civilized western world' but i just checked CDProjekt's site (as they are still mainly a retailer and importer of games in Poland) and Black Ops is listed at 139 PLN (which is about equivalent of 50$ game in US or £30), and if i order it through their site i'd only pay 119 PLN so ~40$ or £27.

You should simply bash your retailers on their heads. *nod*
