New computer and it's programs

So i bought this nice new computer today. It comes with it's wonderful default programs. Yes lets call them default programs... not you know hurdles of shameful frustration and failure.

anyway i'm not as tech savy as i'd like and i need advice on something. Will uninstalling the cyberlink stuff that has a hotkey destroy my computer? i'm not ever going to use it(purposely) and i want to know from others who have done it what i'm getting rid of and if any problems cropped up becasue of it.

I'll probably get rid of these sooner or later but i want to do some research first. just a safety precaution. als i know the comp sucks, it was a cheap laptop and we just need something to surf the web on.

EDIT; Sorry powerlink was suppose to be cyber link. I fix. And i don't have back up CDs which is why i'm hesititant.

Considering that the programs you mentioned seem to be mostly multi-media related it should be safe to remove them. Also: What exactly do you mean with the "Powerlink Stuff" you speak about and what OS do you use?

And btw: Does you comp come with a recovery CD? If so, you shouldn't worry too much about erasing any programs from your comp as you can (potentially) easily return your whole computer to its default settings....

EDIT: Anyway, I'am with the poster below: deinstall the programs and see what happens. I expect the worst that could happen is that your multi-media support vanishes. But thats something that you can easily recover by reinstalling the drivers from the HP of the Manifacturer - or even more easily by installing a new Audio/Video player software (If you are using Windows I recommend the VLC Media Player (for Video files) and Winamp (for managing your MP3 Library))

I have never heard of this powerlink, which is odd if your saying it came with the computer. Like the person above me said, it sounds like something media related. As long as you have Quicktime/WindowsMediaPlayer (Or any other thing that will paly media. I'm just saying this because its highly doubtful that this powerlink is the main media player of the OS, but if it was somehow, it might not be the best to uninstall.) Overall, I don't think there is any problem with uninstalling it. Give it a go and report back soldier!

Your best option is to get a windows edition (I'd recommend win7) If youre a student we're talkin real cheap here. It may have even come with your laptop (if not you can demand a windows CD from them, if the laptop came with windows installed - sometimes they dont give you a real version and give you "recovery CD" which will be all but useless if stuff hits the fan)

So get your windows CD, and install a fresh copy of windows, without all the malware junk that they load onto your pc.

That stuff is almost impossible to get rid of completely, but if you can get rid of it, do. It's an utter waste of your resources.

They don't appear to have any particular value to the computer as a whole; it all looks like meadia stuff which is fully replaceable if you find you do need it.

Honestly, as long as you aren't screwing around with the OS itself, just about anything else is fully removable with no real danger. The only thing you absolutely need is the OS.

Hehe I used to have one of the old versions of those models - still runs except the keyboard keys fell out.

The best thing is if you have a Windows disc and can do a clean install of Win7 64-bit, then reinstall the essential HP drivers

If not, there is a lot of crap HP puts on its laptops and you can get rid of almost all of it. All those cyberlink programs can be deleted 100% no problem.

I had to do this last year for my HP Envy 15

- HP wireless assistant is extremely pointless - windows network connection manager works better and uses less resources

- all the HP smart media/netflix/image/etc. is bloatware, you are better served by media player classic and windows image viewer

- and so on for dozens of apps that come pre-installed with HP

These programs are usually known as 'Crapware'. Manfacturares put it on there because it somehow lowers the cost of the computer. It is in all cases completely useless, and more often than not serve to slow the computer down (due to poor coding). Uninstall them, or re-install Windows if you want to make absolutely sure they're gone. Or switch to Linux and don't bother with advertising bullshit no more.
