Well I just tried building a new computer and to no surprise to me the thing is not working.

When I power it on everything powers on for 2 seconds then the power dies for another 2 seconds, then it powers back on. Everything seems to have power after it does it's weird momentary power down, all fans are spinning and I hear the HDD and DVD drive spinning but I get no post beeps. Everything is lit up and spinning but it's not even getting to post and nothing is coming up on the monitor. Any ideas before I RMA everything and buy a pre-built computer?

EDIT: Never mind, writing this on my new comp. There was another ATX power hookup on the motherboard I didn't hook-up.

The thing still powered off in the middle of the night at some point and when I got it back up it came up with the safe mode prompt...everything seems fine tho. And why is my HDD score in windows 7 only 5.9? It's 7200 RPM STATA 6.0 gbit/sec compliant and hooked up to SATA 6.0 gbit/sec socket.

Hey, new problem.

Yesterday morning I booted the computer up and when windows went to load it said that iastor.sys was missing/corrupt. I ended up reformatting and did a fresh install for good measure and also partitioned my HDD and put the OS on its own partition.

Once again things seem fine now and it was working just fine the entire day after that. But does anyone know what could have caused that? Absolutely nothing out of the ordinary happened before that and the only thing that changed from the last shutdown was that windows installed some updates before shutting down.

Honestly, could have been a number of things... best thing to do is make a note of it then promptly ignore it unless it comes back. You don't want to waste days bug hunting a glitch that doesn't come back... After a few weeks, if it doesn't make a repeat performance, you can write it off as one of The Many Mysteries of Windows.
