Helen died today....

My friends Aaron and Frank came over this weekend for some gaming fun! We played tons of games. Mostly on Aarons 360. Frank went to put borderlands into Helen, but when he turned her on, bum bum buuuum! 3 little red death slices.

I bought Helen January of 2006, making her 4 [sup]1/2[/sup] years old at the time of death. She was a core system or "arcade". Never hiccup'd, never crashed, never ringed a disc, healthy as an ox... or so i thought.

I have quite a few games just over 2 dozen i think... plus all the arcade games i bought over the years.

So my question is... now that Helen is dead and her life insurance has expired. Whatever shall i do? Do i get a 360 slim? A used older version? What say you.

Get the Halo Xbox. When my console died last year I went and bought the MW2 console for the 250GB HDD. Worth it. Runs great.

Helen is nothing compared to my JesusBox. It's died three times and has come back full force each time.

On topic: I'd go with new hardware because you can never fully trust used consoles.

Wait to see how the new line of 360s work and their (reported) failure rates, then go from there.

Sell your games, give your account away, use that money to buy a PS2 and its 30 greatest games. Just an idea.

Trade it all in and get a PS3 and accept your loss. You will be the winner in the end :)

Replace it with a new slim. A PS3 is nice, but there's no point losing all your old arcade games and 360 games. I also tend to play my 360 more than my PS3 anyway.

What do you mean? You don't invite your friends over to stick your "game" into your girlfriend...?

*ahem* Moving on...

OT: I'd wait to see how the Slim's are. Otherwise maybe just go with a new 360 or, if you want to try one, a PS3.

Or be awesome and buy a super sweet gaming PC!

If you're looking to save money, I'd look for an Arcade if you can still find any. They should be suitably cheap now. Failing that get an Elite and enjoy the new HDD space (transfer kits readily available now).

Or... you could get the S model. It is beautiful and quiet and you can have Shiny New Toy feeling for a while to get over the loss of your beloved. :)

Don't worry I name my consoles too. My latest Pc's name is Alice, my last one was Lucy, my Wii is Heather, and my Xbox doesn't have a name.

To be honest the best investment is a gaming computer if you can afford it. Consoles may be able to play certain kinds of games earlier, but eventually all things come to the computer.

Never named a console, but my laptop's names are Okami and Fenrir respectively

Just make sure its a backwards compatible PS3.
Doesn't really matter anymore, the PS3 has its own game library now, it doesn't need the PS2 BC to get by.

OT: I'd sell off the hard drive and games and go for a PS3 - the Xbox 360 will never be as reliable as the PS3, and it's just not worth sinking more money into it. Besides, companies need to learn that poor quality gets punished and good quality gets rewarded. Keep buying a 360 and Microsoft learns that they actually profit off of poor hardware quality.

I would reccomend you get a the new Xbox360 and a transfer kit.

on an unrelated topic, I find kinda awkward that you name your consoles, but then again, my 2 instruments are called jen & melissa so I guess I can't complain

I bought a used 360 from gamestop, and i paid 20 bucks for the 1 year warranty. Chances are, if you do this, you'll be able to get a console that will last you somewhere between 7 months to a year. and there are certain... circumstances that can take place, which would make your console only last 11 months so that you could renew your warranty and get another xbox.
