IGN has just uploaded two new video's of Cryengine 3 in action (on the PC/360/PS3). Sure the level of detail is unmatched by any other engine but there's a far more interesting feature they show here, Cross-platform compatibility. The person doing the tech demo shows that Cryengine 3 allows for a perfect sync between all 3 platforms (he makes changes in real time on the PC editor which immediately take effect on both the 360 and PS3).
So my question is this, what does this mean for the future of console gaming. If developers can develop for both systems using the same engine without having any importing issues does this make the complex differences between the PS3 and 360 architectures obsolete allowing for much better multi-platform releases?
Update:
Ign has just published a walk through of the demo used at the GDC, it focus's on the PS3 version and shows the huge level of detail present in the environments.
