"Words such as "training" (調教) or "slave", among others, are not allowed in the title or packaging"

Sorry but someone needs to clear this up for me:

a) How is the word training related in any way to sex/rape/anything other than Pokemon.
b) Does that mean Brain Training is now illegal in Japan?
a) I can explain, although I imagine googling BDSM training would explain too.
b) Not sure. I presume they actually only plan to apply it to rape games.

One day all of Japan will be cleansed of their perverted ways.

It will be the end of the world.

Though I'd like to think if I sold Eronge in Japan for a living that Regulations would not apply to Me since I'd pretty much be in a dank place already.

If the rapist is caught at the end of the game and given a taste of his own medicine, I can see that being a good example.

Predix: Another thread full of thinly veiled xenophobia and absolute ignorance about what is actually being regulated.

It's very likely that most of this material would be circumvented with disclaimers, single line clarifications or other things along those lines. What I'm intrigued is the fact that the VISUAL ARTS director is outraged about this. From what little I know of Visual arts, they generally deal with True love type games.

Again, not sure I like this from a personal point of view (if you put aside stuff about free speech and idiotic morals) because it does seriously limit stuff that can be done in eroge.

Hopefully the Ai@space guy will take a stand.

Have one rape scene that saves the world? NO GAME FOR YOU
I'm actually quite intrigued about how you would go about creating that situation... :D

What about "skill education" instead of "Training"? What about a Fable-stylee system about the rape? If you rape, people demonise you and make the game harder?
A woman rules the world. You rape her, she goes insane and hides away in acapoco (sp).

There ya go, you just saved the world

Questions appear to remain unanswered, however, as at least one site says the EOCS is planning a "gradual change" in the new requirements and it has also been suggested that some companies will simply drop their membership in the EOCS and continue developing their games unhindered.
So, in other words, these changes might take forever to take place, and even if they were implemented, the makers of the games could go on doing their thing as long as they left a particular organization?

EDIT:

Hypnosis is ok, according to the Canned Dogs article you linked to. It's not in the main bullet points, but I think that it's certainly food for thought... I mean, what does this mean exactly? That the rape games of today will become the hypnosis games of tommorow?

Sigh also get that Rapelay image out of here. The games being regulated play completely differently from rapelay, have different takes on rape than Rapelay and are just in general fundamentally incomparable on every front except both has rape within them as content.

Correct me if I read this wrong, but new games of this genre that haven't been released but were created before the law came into effect can still be released? I'd like to give a big round of applause to our old, rule defying, unfair friend, GRANDFATHER CLAUSE! (Applause)

Eh, I'm a bit skeptical on this. Sure rape is bad IRL no doubt, but in games people do lots of other things that would be unspeakable IRL.

Murder has no place in a healthy society. Virtual murder, especially a gruesome one, is awesome (ask people about the best thing in Fallout 3).
A healthy society resents and detests war. War games (and movies) are one of the most popular genres.
Rape has no place in a healthy society. Why is it wrong in a video game while most other crimes are perfectly fine?

And don't give me the crap about the killing being about "survival" and/or "ultimate good goal". All the Grand Theft Auto games, where you rob people of their cars so you can take part in a bank robbery or a gang shoot-out in the middle of a crowded city (and get money for killing random people and blowing up random cars), any other mafia games where all the crimes you commit are for nothing but the personal gain of you or your boss, and every game where you have the choice to be the "bad guy" is supposed to be played by killing, stealing, cheating, betraying and generally being a criminal and an asshole for nothing more than your own personal benefit and enjoyment.

Also, has anyone actually seen the game Rapelay that started all this? I have, and for a non-japanese speaking person it's nothing but a 3D porn simulator. There is no physical abuse, just groping on the train and having sex in the park/public bathroom/bedroom. If the game didn't say "Rape" on the cover, you couldn't tell it apart from every other 3D sex game out there. So the only thing that makes it an "offensive" game is actually the context ? achieved entirely by textual information (in Japanese), and nothing but textual information. In movie terms, it's basically a mainstream porn movie that someone has changed the cover to say "rape" and added "he's raping her" in the subtitles. If "any sex advertised 'rape' is, in fact, rape", I feel sorry for our future.

In no way do I advocate any of this trash. I don't care for it...but it's fake, none of the people portrayed in eroge are real.

From what I've been told, Japan has relatively low sex crime rates so it's not like it's causing people to go out and really do the things portrayed in these games.

People just need to learn to live and let live.

Did they just ban videogames in Japan?
Also, does it still apply if I call it a JRPG? You play the role of a Japanese serial rapist in some, right?
