Ok so I don't even know if this is possible but;

I think it would be a good idea (I know bad first line right?)

If - the thread creators had the option to lock and/or move the tread to another section.

I guess there might be abuse of this, but that's for mods right?

It just seems that every so often someone posts a thread in the wrong section, and it doesn't get moved, because well, only a mod can do that.

There's also the cases of threads which are double posted, or where the authors wish the thread to be locked. And often this doesn't happen or takes a while.

Now I'm not trying to be preachy about mods/admins etc. It's just theyre here to keep the boards "good", there doesn't seem to be a reason not to let thread authors have the ability to move threads to a different section, or even lock their own threads.

Now mind you; I don't know if this is even possible, I dont think Ive ever seen those options on any forum.

And maybe I'm not being creative enough, but I can't see big abuses of these options.

What do you think?

Or they could just ask a mod to do it.

I mean, show a little patience.

EDIT: What if I keep on making and locking threads? Very frequently.

At least a mod can lock a thread and BAN the maker.

If you make and lock thread excessively, the mods barely know it existed..

But whats the harm in letting the thread author do it instead? Otherwise it becomes a burden to mods right?

Too easily abused by trolls, jumping from forum to forum to keep it up as long as possible...

Locking and moving would make sense. I don't see how it's possible to abuse that.

Unfortunately i think what might happen if you gave the ability to lock threads to the creator is that a very small minority would create a thread and give everyone their opinion and then promptly lock the thread as if to say "you can't argue with me" and that would probably make others do the same thing back in order to argue and then we would get a bunch of useless one post threads about nothing.

We can change our name?! How?!
Supposedly you can if you go to Update Account Information, but it hasn't worked for me yet.

OT: I think the site is perfect apart from some tech issues.

I don't know if this sounds too exclusive, but when you register you get a shortened version of the guidelines and then do a short quiz to see if you read and understood it. Just a bulleted list of the more important things like "No 'First' posts", no flaming, etc.

I know it sounds a bit mean, but if people can be persuaded to look at the rules before their first post, we might have a bit of a reduction in moderator wrath due to not knowing the rules.

You know what, I think were fine without it. The mods work at a good pace and giving more power to lock their threads=1 post thread where you cant respond. Thats not what this site wants. And the moving would be annoying cause it could just be somebody moving it every 2 minutes for shits and giggles.

But then the mods would do something about that I'm sure. It's plain abuse, but I dont see it happening every day of the week, just like I dont see threads spammed by a single person with abuse.

I mean the community here seems mature enough to handle the responsibility of moving threads should the need arise.

True, but it is just a quicker means of having the mods, to me it just seems like a new tool for trolls causing the relived effort from the mods to be replaced by that.

I wish there was a feature where right before you hit "post" a computer reads the message, and if necessary a big hand appears on screen along with the words "Stop! Don't be an asshole!"

I'm not directing that at anyone in particular, I'm just saying... it would be neat.

It could be abused but maybe if the poster had over 5000 posts. that way itd be a privelige and MUCH harder to abuse
