Never played the OG, but was the whole love triangle feeling I got from this trailer present? Kinda roll my eyes at that now. Looks good besides though! Might have to pick it up at some point.

Wait, does Reno no longer step on the flowers? : (

I always loved how his man point out he already ruined them after telling them not to step on them

Glad the Corneo sequence seems pretty much intact (although I doubt Cloud will still be gang raped by a bunch of muscle dude in a sauna. If you never played the game, I'm not even kidding).

Seems like we'll be getting summon much earlier, not really a surprised since otherwise they'd be absent from the first game.

Not crazy about the new character, wasn't needed and introducing a new SOLDIER just make them less prestigious.

Yes and no, I guess I'll keep it spoiler free, the game track your attitude toward the other character and at some point you'll go on a date with whoever you have the highest point with. But the deck are HEAVILY stacked in favor one particular person, and unless you go out of your way to favor someone else (you have to be a real jerk to everyone else), you're always going to get the same person. So there's not really a triangle (also it doesn't really matter for reason I won't mention).

Ugh dammit, ok yeah, that's looking good and I kinda wants it even though I think ff7 is overrated.

Who, Jessie? Nah, she's not new. Avalanche had more members than just your party members.

Critical must have forgotten the very beginning of the game. Even I remember Jessie. This game is coming out sooner than expected. I might get it, but I'll wait and see.

It looks pretty good, but so did the trailers to Final Fantasy XV.
That game wasn't bad though. You just had to watch the prequel anime, play chapter 1 of the game then watch the movie Kingslaive and wait for a few years for DLC to fill in further story gaps. ;)

Even had they implemented the entire story from the beginning it wasn't very good to begin with. I still really enjoyed FF15 though. It had a really chill atmosphere and exploring the world was a blast. It was cool to see classic Final Fantasy creatures in a realistic background at such high resolution. The weather effects in particular are gorgeous and I have never seen another game done that 'damp' effect that happens when warm weather returns after heavy rain. It's full of details like this that add to the mood. I also thought the boy band was gonna suck but they were remarkably likeable with interesting character arcs. The combat was also surprisingly fun despite some issues like camera being obscured in foliage or it not really working in cramped environments. I enjoyed the game, it was never tedious or boring and didn't overstay it's welcome like most other open world games. At it's best moments FF15 felt like original modern ideas meeting classic JRPG design.

What? I didn't forget Jessie. I didn't even mention anything about new characters. Also the new character is the Soldier that chases them during the bike scene in the trailer. probably.

Though come to think of it, is a process can apply to almost every daily interaction that hasn't ended in bloodshed so far. Even some that have! There's a FF fan musical friend (omg the fucking "f"s) a many few miles away who's no doubt experiencing multiple ecstasies over this, so am happy for them, the nostalgic idiot. I'll still pretend to be unimpressed when they inevitably show me it in person.

I wouldn't call FF XV bad either, just crushingly underwhelming, considering how good some of the trailers looked. I mean, I know the game had an extremely troubled development cycle and I'm not meaning to harp on it but the second half, where it became clear the budget ran out and the game was rushing from plot point to plot point without being able to let any of them sink in or expand upon them was just... depressing. I mean, as soon as the game actually has you visit interesting locations you don't actually get to explore these locations in an open world anymore. That was just sad. And then there's the combat, which had an interesting idea somewhere, in the sense that basing it around holding buttons rather than pressing them at least indicated that they were willing to think outside the box when it comes to action combat but it never quite clicked.

Anyway, FF XV is the reason why I'd not getting too excited about the FF VII remake. It could be good but it might just as well be another dissapointment.

I'm happy to see that "The most interesting part of FF7, The Game" is shaping up to be quite good looking.

I will be quite pleased to be proven wrong if it actually does end up being actually great.

Sadly, I don't have a PS4 and it's an exclusive. *shrug*

Yeah, that overdesigned wreck that's clearly brought to attention. In fact, even having another motorcycle chase raises alarm bells. Like I've said elsewhere, this entire project has just seemed off from day one. It really reminds me of the Special Editions of Star Wars.

I don't even get the point. Probably none of the people working on this remake ever had anything to do with the original. They are changing the story, the tone, the pacing, the characters, the visuals, the gameplay, the music, everything. This won't be Final Fantasy 7 because FF7 already exists and is nothing like what we're seeing here. A decade ago I might have wished for a FF7 with character models that didn't look like Popeye the lego man, but I regret even thinking that now. Once you go in and start retroactively changing a work how do you know where to stop? When something is made it should stand as it is and not be constantly be rewritten over and over by new people who think they can do it better. Movies, games, and books, ect. are special because of the people that made them, a part of them ended up in the work. If you change the team you change the work and you lose what made it special to begin with.

Remakes for things which were already good in the first place don't make sense, because they are already good. You have just as much chance of making it worse as making it better. The only time I can see remakes being worth it is if you are remaking something that wasn't very good to begin with (and probably if only if you are the original creator taking another crack at a failed project with more experience.)

Remakes and sequels are two concepts I wish society on the whole would abandon.

Notably the present was also rambling about some conspiracy thing to deal with Wutai too. Presumably meaning they're jamming in another plot thread so that they can fit the entirely optional continent into the episodic structure.

Not that I'd give out any big narrative awards for the original, but if they're already having to chop up Disc 1 which was the part before the pacing and structure went to hell, it doesn't bode too well for the rest.
