Trusty a companion as my current battlestation is, there always comes a time where the ol' ship needs to be retired, tastefully of course (blown up), and a spanking new rig assembled. This is the time, and this is my new rig:

Intel i7 930 with Gigabyte x58a UD3R
Kingston 6GB DDR3
MSI GTX460 Hawk x2 (They want to sli the cards)
Samsung 1TB HDD
Aerocool 700W PSU
Coolermaster 690ii Advanced Case with 1 additional fan
Windows 7 Home Premium
Samsung BX2450 24in LED monitor

And so I was wondering, what should I play/replay for this maiden voyage of my new vessel... any ideas?

Crysis and Crysis Warhead.
Playing those again on my new rig (i7 920/6GB G.Skill DDR3/GTX285) was so much fun, and they'll put your rig through its paces!

Edit: 3 posts recommending Crysis to start out with!

Dude, are you attempting to break down the universe or something? Cause that's like a mythical space-monolith form future. Three years down the line, it will absolutely pwn and make cry any at then recent release.

That rig, will make crysis shrivel up like ice-water. Seriously. That's so overpowered in relations to anything sane it's not even funny.

That said, any cry-engine game comes to mind. Nothing else, even theoretically, can make use of your rig to any potential.

That seems like a pretty epic PC. I hope you didn't get ripped off for it.

Just take any game you previously had to play with limited graphics, and wander around in the highest resolution possible with every graphical effect you can find turned on fully.

Assassin's Creed 1/2 are good...

...or any new-ish FPS. Preferably Bad Company 2...

...or Oblivion + Graphics Mods, perhaps?

FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUAWESOME!

The only way that rig could be better is if you installed Windows 7 on a solid state drive!

Play Just Cause 2 with DX11, see what happens.

Oh dear...
Well I hate to burst your bubble, but:
Three years down the line any current hardware will be outdated, even the GTX480 which is vastly superior to the GTX460.
Put crysis on full settings, high AA and DX10 and this system will still hurt, Crysis is poorly optimised.
There is nothing currently (expect possibly triple Sli 480's) that can run Metro 2033 at a constant playable level on DX11 settings with AA turned up.

Haha then again, i'm awaiting eagerly the release of Deus Ex and Crysis 2 to bring me back down to earth... willing to bet a new Cry-Engine would come around at the fourth year and trounce my rig thoroughly. But till then,I'm happy =)

Thanks for the suggestions, looks like i'm gonna have to find my crysis discs.

Haha yeah most people think I was definitely ripped off, but i'm shamelessly proud to say this is the result of a few days of hard work at a big IT fair, asking around and weaseling every single price down as much as possible, so it wasn't even THAT painful on the wallet.

Yeah, unfortunately I know too the foolishness of future-proofing. But hey, thanks to the randomness of my country, i'll be in the army in 2 years, then uni after that, might as well enjoy myself as much as I can now.

As opposed to what other game that had such graphic fidelity at that time?
Just because it had revolutionary graphics does not make it any less poorly optimised, your point has no relevance.

This way I was able to get 40 fps with DX11 and tesselation with a HD 5770. There is no diference in quality.
40 fps on a 5770 with DX11 tesselation and AA? Bullshit without video proof.

People, calm down. It's only a pair of GTX 460s for GPUs. Pretty sweet, yes.

Anyway, the games I found that really pushed my two 5850s were Stalker: Call of Pripyat (DX11), Metro 2033 (DX11), and Cryostasis (DX 10 but possibly the most demanding of the bunch), and of course Crysis + Warhead although while I enjoyed Crysis (first game I played on my current rig - purchased end of April) I found Warhead to be a bit boring because both games are actually fairly generic. I suppose these other games I listed are just too good to go back to Crysis.

Far Cry 2 is not demanding. I have that game at Ultra settings and max AA, and my GPU usage isn't even near max. The game wasn't very well ported from console.

^That Metro 2033 config stuff... Seems odd to me. I play Metro at Very High, DX11 with Tesslation and DoF on (and PhysX but that's because I have a GT 240 for PhysX) and the game runs generally at 50 or so FPS (oh and AA set to AAA (Analytical Antialiasing. 4xMSAA works fine with DoF off but together it effs the FPS). The slowest it goes is around 30-35fps in scenes with crazy lighting. I can't comment on the global illumination thing, seems interesting, but just about Vsync, it actually hurts performance. It artifically limits your FPS and therefore you GPUs. I ran the Dirt 2 demo with Vsync on and off, and with it on it severely hurt the FPS.

When did I post thi- Holy shit that's the same avatar as mine! You, sir/madame, have exquisite taste.

OT: Try running Crysis on the highest setting and maybe something like Bad Company 2 or a game that has matches with large amounts of players.

Did you get any problems using a PhysX slave with Crossfire running as well? Had not really considered if it was possible or not before.

You too, my man/woman, possess an excellent judgement. Good to see someone else knows who the GREATEST comic book character ever afore created is =)

And yeah, first thing i'm gonna do is play Bad Company 2, without that damn lag online for once.

Nope worked in about 5 minutes. Just check this out:

Here's a video proof (using the FRAPS demo so I had to splice 3 30sec videos together)
