Good idea. Has potential. But someone will have to maintain these servers that run the games. And we're gonna need fiber optics... lots of fiber optics.

I have been intrigued by OnLive for awhile now, and I agree that it has potential to be awesome. I just don't understand how they can affordable have enough graphics processing power to do all rendering server-side.

exactly. digital downloading for music or games is just stupid, when you can pay the same price and get a physical item

We buy things that aren't physical items all the time.
Onlive is a service, it's kind of like paying to go see a movie. We don't get any 'physical item' when we pay to go see it.

I like the idea that one day I might to able to play decent games on my computer and i think this idea could go far.

The idea is good, especially for those without a really good computer and without the money to buy all three consoles. I hope it works, but I wouldn't use it.

The best thing is, now you can buy a box but still have to register it to a digital distribution system, thus rendering it useless after the first install, other than to speed up subsequent installs! Awesome!

A physical item that can get lost, damaged, destroyed or stolen. Who's stupid now?

The search button is your friend.

OnLive has been discussed many times and the conclusion most have drawn from it is that it will probably not work.

i called an idea stupid not a person. You cannot attempt a rebuttal by implying that I am stupid without it sounding like a poor flame attempt. anyway that's off the topic.

digital distribution via a method like steam or or D2D is all fine I guess, but OnLive? I can only see that having a negative affect on the gaming world.

I'd say it's stupid to have an illogical attachment to physical items.

I'd say it's stupid to have an illogical attachment to physical items.
theres no 'attachment', and it's not illogical, if a game is a physical item it can be sold if cash is needed, it can be lent to people, and it's generally more likely that people would want to spend their hard earned cash on something they can hold as opposed to something stored on their hard drive, which could be lost at any time and has no back up (i recently lost all my data, and it's nice to be able to reinstall games as easy as putting a disc in)

another problem with digital distribution, piracy. an awful lot of people would not pay to download something. look at how many people use the piratebay and the like for music as opposed to itunes.

anyway why so much hate on people that aren't keen on digital downloading? why can we not have both options? and nearly everyone is on a fairly slow connection, maybe even with a download limit, with the exception of a few big cities in the wealthiest countries.
