So I have finally dropped my console in favor of upgrading my PC. Its a Gateway DX4860 and at the moment only has an integrated graphics chip which is fine for most games if I drop the resolution and lower the graphics. However my problem is that more and more I find video setting menus devoid of many options and resolution settings that only offer high resolution options, just fitted to different sized screens. So I have a few games that sit in my steam library uselessly.

I have a very minimal knowledge of computer internals. I know enough that if I go prodding inside of one I know how to not mess things up but I am pretty much lost when it comes to Memory clock speed and stuff like that. Also I am on a bit of a budget. I don't want to spend more than $100 on this but that is not a set ceiling.

I need help!

I need a recomendation. I need something reliable that can play games on good settings and output a solid 30 fps. Not asking for ultra settings but I would like the game to look nice.

Look around for a AMD Radeon HD 7750 on computer sites. It should be good enough for you and it should be below 100 USD right now.

Hope I helped and feel free to ask more questions. Though you might want to ask Hazy992. He's a better person to speak about on GPUs. I swear that guy is legendary in suggesting what computer parts to use and such...

I'd recommend an AMD HD 7770. It may cost around 10-20 dollars over your budget but it is a good card for its price and should run most games on medium-high graphics with 40+ FPS.

Yeah good choice. Found one on Newegg for $90.

I don't think I know that much and I'm still learning a lot. One of the reasons I like to help people with builds is it's a good learning experience for me (planning my first build as soon as I have some money).

Thanks for the compliment though :D

I've sworn against Ati Radeon because I've had nothing but trouble with their cards but that's just my personal preference, the reality is that you most likely won't have any trouble with them at all. Still, my advice is to get a Nvidia card, their GTX 640s are around $90 so that seems like a good choice. I know it will be a competent card but I have no idea of how it compares to the AMD Radeon HD 7750 others are recommending so I'll leave it to someone else to answer that question for me.

As for manufacturers, Gigabyte have never let me down.

The GT 640 is a terrible choice for $90. The 7750 costs the same amount of money, but is significantly faster than the 640. You can see a comparison here [http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/535?vs=612]. Even in games that very heavily favour Nvidia like Starcraft II, the 640 still falls behind. Nvidia really doesn't put any real effort in competing below the $150 price point, so I wouldn't bother with them if $100 is your budget.
