I would head up for a 110 dollar 9800GT, a 50 dollar 650 watt power supply, and perhaps 70 dollars or so worth of RAM that is compatible with your mother board.

I personally blew way too much money on my PC, experimenting with a BFG GTX 280 (Don't get it... they may have all year customer support but it's one of the shittiest I have ever encountered) and am currently waiting for dual HD 4870's.

But, what was mentioned above is all you really need, when I first upgraded my computer, EVER, those are the three components I changed out, and managed to get a good average of 60 FPS on Counter Strike Source with all settings maxed, 1440x900 resolution. Got a bit hot though, getting a 120 mm fan may also be a good idea.

A need some help on this too.

Is: AMD® Athlon? X2 5200+ 2.7GHz Dual Core 2 x 512KB L2 Cache; Single 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce® GTS 250; and a 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 2 x 1024MB good for a game rig?
No, it isn't. That sounds like a pre-built budget computer, and those are not for playing games.

This thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.105715] might help you out, especially if you're building yourself.

Like crooked ferret said, more RAM is a good call-it's pretty cheap, too.
So going from 2gb RAM to 4gb RAM for the $100 is owrth it?
If you're willing to install RAM yourself (it's quite easy), you can get 4 gigs of DDR2 for about $50.

i run fallout 3 on a geforce 8400 256mb with no problems oh high settings. its enough for me but i'd like to upgrade. the only problem for me is i dont really feel comfortable ripping my laptop apart... i dont know why you'd have problems with a geforce 9100.
Because the second number is about performance, at least with the 4 digit number cards.
1-3 is bad, 4-7 is decent and will run all reasonably optimized games, 8 is the best and also the best cost/performance.
