Hello, as you can see by my post count and join date I am a new member but I have been on the site for a while. I have finally decided to join so I could be involved in some of the discussions that interest me.
I like to be prepared before I do something and in that spirit I was hoping for the more experienced users help. I was hoping for links to good reaction gifs and some advice for posting here.
Anything you can say to help me would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: My Avatar does not show up for me. Do you see it?
Yes I see your avatar, sometimes it can take a while to show up.
Especially if you're using Chrome.

Hello, welcome to the Escapist, I see you're already making yourself at home, that's good.
A few important things to know...
-Don't feed the trolls. Use the report flag (the flag next to "post and quote") if you have an issue with something someone has said to you.
-Reaction images are fine, but make sure you include a typed out response to go with it, otherwise the mods will get you for low content. Also try to say more than just "I agree" or anything to that effect.
-You can post images by using the tag (remove spaces) [ img ]img url here[ /img ]
If they're large images, include spoiler tags [ spoiler ][ img ]img url here[ /img ] [ /spoiler ]
-You can get some more conversation in the user groups. Do you like MLP?
we have a great group dedicated to it if you do.
You can get a good idea of the rules by visiting this thread.

Make sure you also read the code of conduct.

And pretty much for everything else here.

If you have any questions and just want a more straightforward answer, feel free to ask. I know I didn't cover everything.
I don't really have much to add to the welcome committee.
I do recommend putting your gifs and the like in spoilers. You've already adhered to the preference for properly typed posts, so it's all looking good so far.
As for getting gifs, if I need one I tend to go straight to google, but generally I'd only do that in response to one of the gifs of the Nathan Fillion sort that occasionally will take over. It's pretty calm in most of the site, but put on your flame retardant waders if you want to go into the Religion and Politics area, that place is dangerous, and angry.
I understand the rules and everything. My main question here is more about just getting into the way the forums work. The gif thing is just something I notice a lot of and I was hoping for some advice on where to get good gifs to use in addition to my post.
I dunno, people just seem to accumulate collections haha. I use Tumblr personally but...they're around^^;;. I guess you could try googling 'good reactionary gifs' or something? You never know mahaaa.
Don't have much to add really other than a big WEEELLLCCCOOOMMMEEEEEEEEEEE<3.
The most useful in my book (aside from the essential spoiler tag) is embedding Youtubes. To do such:
Here is your link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXoILGnHnvM. Pretty much cut everything ahead of the word "youtube" and then everything between youtube and that last = sign. Hence, it becomes youtube=yXoILGnHnvM. Throw some [] around that and you've got yourself a video. And for those with less than state of the art computers, try to remember to spoiler your videos.
Want to get into the way the forums work?
There are no special unspoken rules or anything. Just post. Oh, and send people friend requests if you want to be a popular kid.
If people are acting like shit, click the flag button. This'll make mods check their post out if enough people do it. There's still no guarantee that they'll get mod wrath though.
If there's something that isn't really flag-worthy but still requires mod attention (such as a thread posted in the wrong forum section), just send a mod a message
Certain forum sections have regular user bases. This is especially true for Forum games and Religion & Politics.
Whether you want to try to establish yourself as a regular in these sections is up to you. In R&P, all it does is guarantee that every discussion will end up being an argument with the same people about stuff that you've been arguing over before, but in Forum games it means that people will be more familiar and friendly and be more willing to joke around and shit.
You'd also do good to find yourself a User group [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/] or two if you want to make some friends or if you have particular interests you want to discuss in the group chat.
There is one thing the other users have neglected to mention by the way.

Just go into topics that interest you and start chatting and try to be civil.
If you put some thought into your post and stay pretty laid back, you shouldn't have any issues.
If you like fighting debating. Try Religion and Politics.
If you don't, make sure you avoid that place like the plague.
