Boo, hiss etc. The pantomine villain that is "tacked-on" multiplayer has appeared on stage!

Real or not, I just can't see myself getting excited about the prospect of a multiplayer option in the next Mass Effect game. If it does turn out to be true then fair enough, the chances are I may give it a go, much the same way I did with the Assassins Creed multiplayer in Brotherhood.

I would feel the same way about Mass Effect multiplayer that I do about multiplayer coming back for AC:R - a neat little addition but not it's something that I would really look forward to, nor is it likely to influence my purchasing decision any. As long as the singleplayer is there and unscathed (the only reason I'd be investing in the game anyway), then that's alright.

Cool, multiplayer.

I won't be playing it, so I won't care about its inclusion. Real or otherwise, I'm not too bothered by this.

Okay, before anybody rages against me, no, multiplayer isn't a bad thing by definition, though what most people will probably like more in a Mass Effect game is more single player stuff.
What I will rage about is that, if this picture is true, the multiplayer pass is listed as a feature for the collector's edition. So that means that people who buy the normal version, even if they buy it new, have to pay to go online. I'll just leave you with three words...
WHAT! THE! F*CK!

Em well if it is multiplayer lets wait and see it might not be a Dead Space lets hope for an Assassins Creed or something that actually works with the universe and is good. That aside if it is multiplayer I do not have high hopes it will be good.

I believe that the multiplayer is being made by a team completely seperate from the Single player guys. Come on guys, these people have spent 8 years of their life making this series, I know everyone is still glaring at Bioware over Dragon age 2, but those guys were trying to copy these guys.

Also, with regards to co-op: I noticed people are saying how they would like a friend to tag along as a companion. No-one seems to think that it is just as likely that they will be a companion in their friend's story, with no control while their friend is expanding their own story and deciding the fate of the universe, separate to the companion. I can't speak for anyone else, but I detest that idea. Mass Effect is my story, not a friend's, and I wouldn't ask of someone else to lose their story for me either.

I dunno, until this gets confirmed by Bioware/EA, I'm not believing it. That sort of thing looks like a quick Photoshop job to me.
Yeah, I agree. I call bullshit on this one.

If it turns out to be true... well... eh, I still won't rage. I'm a firm believer of not being angry at things unless I know they're bad.
Same here. I won't believe anything about multiplayer until BioWare themselves confirm it.

Just when I started thinking they may have learned their lesson from the pile of shit that became ME2. Don't get me wrong I love the story, and the tie ins to the first game where so good i replayed the first one again just to complete all the side quests, but the game play was just a horrible FPS with some of the worst cover mechanics imaginable.

From this latest development I'm probably just going to watch the cut scenes and call it good. Maybe the Rachni I set loose on the universe will save it from the reapers.

...Why is everyone blaming the publisher? Is it just because it's something you don't like and it feels better to pick on the evil publisher rather than the developers who are obviously your best friends and would never raise a hand to harm you?

Also why the fuck is everyone pissed off about the idea of having a multiplayer mode? It's not like they're removing the single player to include it.

That about sums it up...

... Though that looks like something I could have photoshopped myself so we'll see.

Funky thought, what if 'multiplayer' means the ability to have two other players playing the rest of your squad through a mission? Not just the fighting, but also the cutscene/dialogue wheel segments? The host playing as Shepard while the other two play as the squad members of their choice, getting to chose the RP options for Garrus or Wrex during a cut scene would be pretty cool, getting to integrate the role-playing of all three players into one unique cut scene.

Or...maybe...every player has two characters, one is their Shepard, the other is their 'multiplayer character' You create them to fill a niche in someone's lineup if they want to do an online segment with other players. You'd get the opportunity to create a character of any species, Krogan, Turian, Quarian, etc, flesh them out just as completely as Shepard. Maybe a background, key points and personality segment for each that dictates their speech options during the cutscenes. Your multi-player characters would develop just like your Shepard, but there would be a different skill tree and bonuses for playing them that you couldn't access as Shepard. While on the inverse, you'd receive bonus XP for hosting other players, and you'd have aspects of your skill tree that would only be accessible to Shepard. It would give you an incentive for playing as a host for a multiplayer segment so you can level up faster and gain bonuses for your play throughs with bots, while you'd gain a different roleplay and combat experience playing as a squad member.

You could throw in a command role for Shepard and XP bonuses for the team members for fighting as a unit and completing objectives that your lead Shepard set. Plus you'd get the chance to play as a Krogan Warrior, or a Quarian Marine, or any of the numerous Citadel Races that we've seen as supporting characters at best and the Fanboys are despeart to see more of.

Conceivably you could play through the entire game as a 'backup squad member' building XP with your character and seeing the adventure in a different light, being a part of a different 'Shepard experiance' for the finale of the game. Perhaps there would be an option for players to form ongoing parties so that they could play the entire story of ME3 with the same characters in a trio.

Just a crazy thought about how Mass Effect Multiplayer could work really well and be very interesting.

I wanna believe they mean something akin to the Cerberus Network in ME2, but they say "multiplayer pass", so I'm not too hopeful.

Also, not too hopeful that a multiplayer mode would be any good this late in the trilogy, or apparently tacked onto the N7 edition.

But I'll just go ahead and put my "Blame EA" hat on now...it certainly isn't the first time I've had to wear it.

Why does the mention of multiplayer somehow manage to mean that the game is now going to suck?

It's not that big of a deal. Not at all.

1. This doesn't prove anything.

2. So what if they add an optional feature? I can name 5 games right now that I never touched the multiplayer on.
