So. My current laptop's a piece of shit and I need a new one soon. I need a decent one that can game alright and I can't choose between Intel/AMD and the mainstream computer brands.(eg.Dell/Acer/Hp..)

Suggestions?

Don't get a laptop just for gaming. Just get a decent desktop and it won't cost you as much.

EDIT. and if you must, buy Toshiba. My Dell has had a myriad of problems since I got it.

I would go for an Asus they seem to have reasonably priced quality products from my experience. Can get a pretty reasonable one for like $1600-1800 (Australian dollars so the number will be smaller if you are American). Though for gaming a desktop is mostly better. Gaming laptops have heating issues though some of the rather expensive ones run pretty cool.

For my next laptop I need to choose between these two:

I need a new one because my current laptop is currently dying slowly and the hardware inside is getting outdated.

Go ASUS, high build quality, side mounted main heat vent(disperses heat better and makes working in lap or on beds an such safer) , and they have one of the lowest failure rates in the field.

Its a 16" at 1366x768res which is more than fine for the screen size. I have its predecessor the G60VX, and I've never had an issue with it. It also has a second hard drive slot, so you can purchase and add a second Drive if you need more space (buying the brackets from ASUS is recommended but not really needed).

The G60vx is also still available in stores locally, so check if they have one, its about 100$ cheaper than the G60JX and its performance is only 5% less.

Yes I know a desktop's better for gaming but I need a laptop for...other stuff. and mobility. one fine day if i have enough money i'll get both, but for now, laptop.

judging by the replies, it's either Asus or Toshiba then.
hm.

If you want one mainly for gaming - go alienware.
If you want an all rounder which can game - i advise Dell XPS. I own an oldish Dell XPS which still runs perfectly and is very fast, just look after it and get some good anti-virus.

If you want something to game on, get a PC.

Honestly, huge gaming rigs are very unwieldy and have crap battery life since they're so powerful. Whats the point of spending extra money on a laptop that'll sit on your desk pretty much like any PC would?

There's my two cents anywho. Mind you, I own a gaming laptop - the machine that taught me the lesson above.

If you want something pretty beefy but at less cost, go with Acer. My last two laptops have been from them and the quality is getting better and better. My current one, purchased a few weeks ago, is really nice. Intel Core I5 and a good Radeon mobile chip let's it handles games smoothly. The 17.3" screen has an odd resolution that takes some getting used to but it's nothing that I can't handle.
