So gamespot just put up a new trailer for square enix's thief 4

So, looks like they dropped the goth idea. Trailers ain't much to go on but this looks like dishonored, and dishonored looked like thief, so that might be a good thing.

The protagonist looks like captain generic McStereotype, with added scar. Personally, I think the more goth look is preferable to another generic protagonist. Would be a little varied at least.
As this clearly wasn't gameplay footage, I don't think it will affect any opinions about the game.

Even though my hype isn't really up for this game since it's on next gen, and I won't be getting that in quite a while, it looks promising. But, still not judging till I see actual gameplay footage, but the mood looks pretty good actually.

I liked how Garett snatched the title in the end. Other than that...I can't say more, actually. Just so we're clear - is it confirmed as being a reboot or not? I can't tell from this trailer.

I don't recall anything being confirmed, but they certainly can't still be on the fence about that little detail this close to release. Now that the trailer has leaked I think we can expect some infos about the game from square.

EDIT: Also, if still in doubt, allow me to point you to this [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/PoDo] gentleman. He's sure to help you out.

The game is a reboot from ''many angles'', or something like that according to what I read. I don't think they stated if it's a narrative reboot.

Well, gameplay changes don't constitute a reboot, since sequels can still change gameplay to some extent.
Isn't a reboot only a reboot if it goes back to the series beginnings and re-boots it with a new/different plot/origin story?
I guess if they completely change gameplay it could count as a reboot, but for the game's sake they better keep thief thief.

Yeah, true that. They said Thief4 is still Thief, but they're ''evolving'' the series, while still pleasing the purists. I'm honestly not too worried, anybody remember Human Revolution?
People were complaining up and down about the game, and when the leaked build was leaked, everyone was singing praise from the top of mountains.

I'm just happy that they don't want to make it "more accessible to a wider audience" and want to make it "a good starting point for people new to the series".
We've seen what that would mean...

Seems like it'd be a reboot, since it's just called Theif, but then again it may not. But since it's been such a long time, a reboot isn't a bad idea, it's done wonders for some franchises. Mortal Kombat and the new DMC game are good examples, although fans are a bit split on the second one.

leaked?
off-topic question.....
Does leaked imply it wasn't meant to come out yet?

I'd like to point out something:
People were talking about how the design of Garett has changed, but in reality, has it changed really that much?
that's thew new Garett.
That's old Garett. It really still has the same basic idea, just now with a face cover *which makes sense* and a few other things, such as his arm being fully covered. It's still the same basic design.
I like the new design, myself. I don't know, it just seems cooler.

yes, I imagine they wanted to wait with it a little longer. Now it's out officially, but thats probably just 'cause it got leaked, and there wasn't any point in stalling any longer.

There was an idea regarding making Garett more gothy, but the following outcry probably made them rethink that particular notion. The new Garett is a rare example of actual improvement over the old one without changing the basics. The face-cover and cape are a nice touch.

yes.

[small]obligatory excess words to avoid low content warning[/small]
Just putting excess words won't save you if a mod sees it, I'd add something else quickly. You probably should have edited in the stuff from that second post instead of posting again but what's done is done, I guess XD

OT: It's one of them generic "some say" trailers, but it points towards the game being stealth and evasion based so I'm relatively happy. I'd just rather see gameplay; I am sick to death of cinematic trailers.

Well yeah. He's still Garret, but with 80% more NINJA!

You... you realize that they said *exactly* that, that they want to make the game appeal to a wider audience, in the various GameInformer videos?

When people talk about Garrett's look they mainly speak of his Thief 1&2 outfit

*This* Garrett could walk up to civilians and guards in the street without getting weird looks

You mean beside the fact that he's a cloaked figure that is visibly armed? Old Garrett was many things, but looking inconspicuous was not one of them. If I was a guard, I'd keep my eye on the guy with sword, bow and quiver that hides his face underneath a hood.

OT: trailer looks ok. I'll wait till I see some actual gameplay before making any judgments though. I'm kinda hoping it'll end up being similar to Dishonored. You can play that game as if it were a Thief game. The purists would balk at something like that, but I'd be fine with it. Better a good knock-off than a bad re-imagining.

Whoops, that slipped the net, thanks for pointing it out!
