New Mass Effect 2 DLC Pits Players Against Evil Computer

We're still not sure if Mass Effect 3 is going to be on display at E3, but EA has announced DLC for Mass Effect 2 and has put the game's demo online.

Fans of <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/7075-Review-Mass-Effect-2>Mass Effect 2, as well as those who've just been hoping to sample the game before <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Mass-Effect-2-Xbox-360/dp/B001TORSII/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1276537026&sr=8-1>committing to buying it, are in for some major treats this week. EA and Bioware have announced that not only is a demo of the game available on Xbox Live and PC, but some new DLC will be available for these platforms tomorrow.

The demo gives players the opportunity to play through a couple of solid missions. "Players step into the role of Commander Shepard and must escape from a Cerberus space station under siege. Players can jump ahead to a later mission where they must rescue Subject Zero, a hardened, dangerous criminal from a heavily guarded prison ship."

While the missions may be good, the best part about the demo is that players can save their character after completing the demo and transfer him or her over to the main game, complete with experience points and story decisions in place.

The DLC, <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/100807-DLC-Will-Bridge-Story-Between-Mass-Effect-2-and-3>"Overlord", will have players going up against a new enemy. According to Destructoid <a href=http://www.destructoid.com/mass-effect-2-demo-out-today-new-dlc-out-tomorrow-176327.phtml>the premise is pretty simple, "Overlord will have Shepard and crew fighting against a 'VI Overlord' created by the failed fusion of human and AI."

"Overlord" is set to include five new game areas and two new achievements. It will sell on Xbox Live for 560 Microsoft Points ($7) and on PC for 560 BioWare points.

At the present time, it's <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101281-Rumor-E3-Floor-Plan-Reveals-Mass-Effect-3-Dragon-Age-II>rumored that Mass Effect 3 might be on display at EA's show pavilion , though we'll all have to <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/conferences/e32010>wait and see if this turns out to be the case.

Interesting Idea for a demo. One that could actually alter the main game? I wonder if it might remove some from buying it though. I Definitely enjoy the premise though, and hope something like that would appear more often.

Wait... a demo for DLC? Has this been done before? DLC's tend to be short so a demo wouldn't really be a good idea.

It's kinda sad that EA's decided that the Cerberus network has already filled its Project Ten Dollar quota and that all DLC is paid now. I guess it's preferable to getting nothing for free, but I think they know just how big of a ME2 sucker I am.

I can't let you do that, Shepherd...
Sounds awesome. Too bad I haven't even finished Mass Effect 1 yet.

Ah. More shitty DLC. Honestly...I'm not getting this. Every other Bioware DLC I ever bought felt like a huge rip off. This doesn't seem any different. 5 areas could just be five rooms of shooting with loading screens in between, anyway.

So, the game has been out for about 5 months now and they only put a demo for it out now?
Isn't it supposed to work the other way? Put the demo out to build hype and interest, then finish the game?

Um... sounds to me like it's the opening mission followed by Jack's recruitment mission. What it means is you'll have a save game where you'll start after the point where you're recruited by Cerberus, and already have Jack recruited.

The ME2 demo and the new DLC are completely separate things.

Thank the dieties for the demo! Now I can finally try the game and see if it works on my computer. Don't care about the DLC though, unless Steam will be offering a GOTY edition for cheap in a future sale (a year or two?).

Looking forward to it.
Completed the game about 3 weeks ago and haven't enjoyed a game's story in a LONG time.

This is the reason I love Bioware. What other company would take the time to do the save transfers hassle?
They're simply releasing the intro and the shortest recruitment mission as a demo, no savegame problems when the demo is the start of the game.

If it says "Sorry I can't do that, Shepard" I will laugh.

OT: Neat idea for a demo, and I might get the DLC if I can.
