Official announcement trailer has been fully released. The new Mech game is indeed of the Battletech type. The game is NOT Mechwarrior 5 though. It is a complete reboot of the series.

Judging from the Video, Mechs will take a bit less punishment, although it's a bit early to tell, but the addition of new game mechanics like using the Environment to take out opponents seems to tell us that this will add a whole load of new tactical options.

To update: The game is for 360 and PC alone. Head over to the IGN article here: http://pc.ign.com/articles/100/1002275p1.html.

Oh thank you! Booze, wine and human sacrifices to all in celebration!

Gleeeeeeee!!!!!

*fanboy mode fully activated*

*waiting for the other shoe to drop*

*realizes this will be made for consoles as well*

*becomes afraid of the likely dumb-down effect*

*shall await in anticipation with the sword of realism hanging overhead*

Fuck StarCraft II, THIS is what it takes to get my inner grizzled veteran to stick a stogie in my mouth and growl "Hell... it's about time!" Looks pretty awesome, although I'm not happy to hear it's going to be developed for 360. If it's not MechWarrior 5 then there's a serious chance it'll be just another shallow blast-'em-up like MechAssault, which would suck, but the trailer looked a lot slower paced and more faithful to the original material.

I was particularly impressed with the bit where the Thor pilot collapsed the building the light mech (didn't recognize the design off the top of my head) was standing on to destroy it, that was neat. For a moment there I really thought the Thor was going to beat the Atlas, but that would have been both unrealistic and a dramatic break in the tradition of the POV characters getting their asses kicked in Mechwarrior trailers/opening cutscenes (OK, there was that time in the MechWarrior 3 opening...) If nothing else it was a cool video.

I had a total nerd moment when the Atlas showed up through the smoke. I've been waiting for another PC Mechwarrior game for a while now.

Ah man I remember the very first MechWarrior game for PC (MechWarrior 2 in 1995) and it completely blew me away. I didn't realize they continued the series. Aaah, nostalgia.

I'll hold off getting my hopes up until something other than a cinematic is released, preferably gameplay footage.

this gave me a massive nerdgasm. I've only played mech warrior 4 but own 2 aswell and i've been waiting for a proper sequal to come out for ages. only thing thats bothering me about the trailer though is that the combat looks a lot more slow. Mechwarrior 4 was tons of fun if you were a skilled light mech pilot because you could outrun anything.

Also, cool to see its going back to the earlier stuff, but will the catapult, ravens and shadowcats still exist?

Hell yeah, I loved those games.

please spoiler that. Some people could have a seizure and others just find it incredibly annoying.
And the best way to give attention to that fact is to keep quoting it. Well done.

And then when it gets discovered that the Crysis modification of the same name is better, we can all have a good laugh about it.

Gyrefalcon was the name of my first character for the Jade Warrior Clan. I blew everything up with a Nova. When I got better I switched to doing the missions in a Kit Fox. Speed and jump jets rule!

I even bought a Sidewinder joystick a few years back used to try to have the chance to play again, but it wouldn't calibrate. :( I loved being able to move my character's head to look to the side without having to turn my mech. Ahh, sweet, sweet memories...

Assuming that they will stick to BT canon:

The Catapult should appear, but according to canon it's pretty rare. Most of them are in Capellan space, though the Kuritan Sword of Light regiments have a couple, so you might see it. Judging by the symbols in the video, this will be a battle between the Draconis COmbine and the Federated Suns (no Lyran Commonwealth? awwwww......), so it may show up.

The Shadowcat is a Clan mech. Assuimg that it's set in 3015, this game takes place some 35 years before the Clan invasion. Don't expect any Clan mechs or equipment to appear at all.

According to the Tech Readouts, the Raven did make an appearance in the 3030's as an experimentla Capellan mech, but it was a failure. Too heavy, not enough electonric warfare equipment to make it useful, it was only with the discovery of the Grey Death memory core that technology became available to make it a viable design, and it was just entering sevice as the Clans invaded. Being experimental and Capellan, even it if it did exist at this stage, it was a pretty crappy mech, so I wouldn't expect to see it.

On a further note, my brother did some poking around and found this:

Catalyst games acquire rights to the Unseen [http://catalystgamelabs.com/2009/06/24/catalyst-game-labs-brings-back-unseen/]

That's pretty cool stuff right there. Here's a list of some of the mechs we can expect to see [http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Unseen]
I love having people so in depth about the lore on the escapist. Kudos to you sir

incidently, the manual from Mechwarrior 4 is brilliant

EDIT: Also, any ideas if the Vulture or Cougar would be included?
