new messages/reply notifications not working

For some reason, I never get the red flashing notifications telling me about messages anymore- I have to go into my profile inbox before it 'remembers' the messages all listed there in the inbox. Has this happened to anyone else?

Does anyone know how to fix it?

That's a new one on me; with all of the server related problems this site has, getting my messages on time has never been one of them. They don't show up unless you hit refresh or load a new page, but they aren't designed to do that in the first place.

Honestly, I thought this thread was going to be about Facebook. Ever since the Ticker update came out, the site has really cut down on the number of notifications I get, in a very bad way. It's like they expect you to sit there all day, paying attention to every little change in the ticker feed. As a result, I wind up not finding out for days that someone responded to something I said. It's really annoying.

Yes they are. It should show up even without reloading the page.

Yes they are. It should show up even without reloading the page.

Then add me to the list, because in the year plus that I've been using this site, that has never once happened. The status bar or whatever it's called (the thing at the top of the browser with the name of the site, followed by the name of the program), will occasionally update with the new number of messages on its own, but as far as the number on the site itself? I have never once seen that happen.

Seriously, who knows what's happening in the Escapist servers? I just hope people don't start actually bitching negatively about it later on, and just let them work on it without pressure.

The way it used to work for me was if a message came through while looking at a page, if I opened up another tab it would have the (1) there, and I think it would then get updated to all the other escapist tabs as well.

Maybe it's for the best. I only tend to get replies when someone doesn't particularly like what I said.

It's not exactly a new thing. They've gone too long without an upgrade, and they just can't handle the stress of normal traffic -- especially not on Wednesdays. It may have been different when you joined (which, dude, anyone who can hold on for four years without getting banned deserves a medal, forget a badge), but that's definitely how it's been for the entire time I've been using the site.

I wasn't even aware they had issues about upgrading, or handling traffic on a given day, even. Hopefully they can get on top of this thing without much hassle and expense, but who knows.

When I joined they didn't even have notifications so I dunno. As for not getting banned, the trick is...I guess...taking breaks? I mean, just look at my post count.
