To let it out before anything else, I have found the group to be un-listenable post Frankenstein Girls. Anyway, if you look at the kickstarter for the new record, it's a tongue-in-cheek declaration that it's finished and is being held for ransom. The record already exists, and the incentives are pretty much special (although pretty cool) "pre-order bonuses".

Is Kickstarter a proper place to get funding for something that's already finished, the idea being to sidestep traditional record labels? It seems like it ruins the spirit of the whole thing, but we've gone through that again with video games. I personally feel that they should just announce and pre-order it on their site without using kickstarter as some kind of "before it's released" store.

So will you be pitching in? Is my ideology totally wrong? Do you still even like MSI? Let me know, dear Escapists.

Edit: Nevermind about pitching in, its already been successfully funded. Still discussion value here.

A lot of AMVs get posted on youtube from Mindless Self Indulgence. Their silly lyrics andsound suit AMVs just fine, but I could never enjoy them as standalone music.

So a no from me.

I don't understand why people keep donating so much money even once the target has been reached.

Are they not? Forgive me, it must have been the one or two songs of theirs I've heard. I made a point to not listen to any more beyond that

Agreed, I've only liked one of their songs (Shut me up) and that's just because of the wacky ass video they did with it.

The rest of what I've heard was so awful....

That's the doucheist thing I've heard all day, if so.

That said, Protest The Hero (who are several billion times better than MSI) did their own Kickstarter-type thing, and raised enough money in a day or two. If you do it properly like PtH then it's a really good way for bands to operate.

Really, this much hate for MSI here? I mean sure they're completely silly and "If" wasn't the best thing ever, but they're legitimately talented and have put out some good stuff, and I'm interested to see where the new record will go...never mind it's out today apparently? Better go download it and see how it turned out. The samples I heard didn't sound all that interesting but eh.

OT: I posted a thread about this back when Protest the Hero funded their album in a day, so if you're an established band with a fanbase that's willing to fund your album, it's a fine way of going about funding things, even if albums don't usually cost much to record nowadays.

Probably just because they want the album/whatever other rewards they're interested in.

I thought this was a kickstarter that holds the new record for being the most mindless and self indulgent. I am disappointed.
