Game ratings for 3 and 7 year olds? Never seen those...how exactly do you classify a game under these symbols? Would Ratchet and Clank be a 3, 7 or maybe even a 12? I honestly couldn't tell.

What happened to no age restriction? Is 3 the new logo for it? It's not like there are a lot of gamers younger than 3, atleast I don't hope so.

Oooo colors. Or colours, I suppose. I wish the ESRB would tart up our boxes. Maybe they could have a humorous smiley face that became less and less smiley as the rating increased. Like, at EC he could be really happy and then around T he would get sort of annoyed and then finally at AO he would have X's in the place of eyes.

All I'm saying is, at least you got colo(u)rs. The most exciting thing about American ratings is that the letters are slightly tilted to the left.

This isn't any major change from the existing PEGI system which is used in-tandem with the 15 and 18 BBFC icons. Sure, people recognise the BBFC 18 circle (red) and the BBFC 15 circle before the new PEGI boxes, but at least the colours make more sense. I've always favoured PEGI and it's "content descriptor" icons. The one missing from the six below is a pair of dice, representing "gambling".

I guess the one thing that does annoy me is the PEGI 16 rating - 12/15/18 was such a nice, straightforward system that increments sensibly. Ignore 12A - that's only ever been applied to movies and is utterly the fault of the PG-13 rating in the US.

I was wrong about PEGI, now their doing they are completely taking over they are getting all the same legal rights as BBFC did. Wish BBFC still did it, talk about over-complication.

Too colourful, therefore equal to moot.

I feel like another pointless L4D2-esque boycott. Bring back BBFC!

O.K....I can see problems.

First, no "E"?
Second, what makes something a 7 but not a 3?
Thirdly, 16/18? Not a great deal of difference there.
Fourthly, given this won't apply to things like books, how do you translate between the two media.
Fifthly, ...oh I can't be bothered, it's a dumbass idea.
I suppose 3 is the new E because the guys at PEGI think they're l337.
I'm guessing Barbie's Horse Adventures is a 3, while a game like Jak and Daxter or Crash Bandicoot is a 7. Which is ridiculous, since no 5-year-old child is going to be scarred from watching a cartoon squirrel spin into a mushroom and making it disappear.
And I guess that Call of Duty would be 16, while Silent Hill or GTA would be 18.

Hm. Cool. PAL games are mostly the de-facto standard here in Dubai, so maybe people buying games for their 9 year old spoiled shit of a kid will gain some knowledge.

Kid: MOMMY MOMMY! I WANT THIS!
Parent: Sorry Jimmy, but this rating sticker is red! Maybe when you're older!
