Ok, so I just wanted to get some opinions about this because I don't think it's related to the most recent update on Xbox Live.
I wrote about it on my blog, so here's that post:
So here's the scenario: I moved back into my apartment in Dayton, Ohio after a 2 week stint at home last Monday. I took my 360 home with me and while I was there it was used almost exclusively for Halo Reach and for watching South Park online. Anyway, once I got back from Dayton I didn't unpack the Xbox right away. It actually stayed in the carrying bag I have for it for about a week. Yesterday I was sitting on my couch in my apartment (for sake of telling an accurate story it's a "love seat" but for the sake of me still sounding like a straight male I'm going to call it a "couch") and I decided I wanted to play some Halo Reach on xbox live. This was the first time the system had been turned on in a little over a week so there was an update for the system which I didn't think anything of and let it do its thing. It's not as often as the PSN firmware updates, but when something like that comes up I just sort of change the channel and watch a little TV while it updates.
So I'm playing Halo Reach (around, ah huh huh huh huh, shut up) and I'm actually having a really good game. I've got the sniper rifle and I'm picking people off with a BOOM HEADSHOT here and a BOOM HEADSHOT there you know. I'm leading my team with 21 kills when the system just turns off. No disconnected screen, no taking me back to the main menu, no batteries are low in your controller, nothing. Just black screen, all lights go off, system is quiet, even my controller died. My first thought was "GOD FUCKING DAMN IT". My second thought was "did the power go out?" but a quick look at the two lamps that were in the room with me told me that the power was still on. I sat there for a second trying to piece together what happened and then decided I had other things I needed to be doing and didn't think about it anymore.
Fast forward to today and I'm sitting on the same couch, holding the same controller, playing the same game, looking at the same two lamps and my team slayer match is going pretty well. My team was up 20-7 and just as I capped some red team noob and the counter went to 21-7 the fucking system turned itself off again.
DOUBLE YOU!

I was having a good game, but certainly not the quality of the first game (21 kills, 14 with a sniper, c'mon people that's pretty good) so again my initial reaction was to be angry I'd lost the progress in my game. But then I got to thinking about what was actually happening and how strange it was.
It's not the Red Ring of Death. It's not even a physical problem like my last 360 had (the AV cables just stopped working with the system. Old cords worked with a new system, but new cords with the old system didn't so I had to get a new system). It's as if someone pulled the plug out from the wall but that's not the case because I'm looking right at it and no one touched it. What could it be?
Here is the list of possible explanations:
1. My Xbox is just tired of Halo Reach
2. It's mad at me for leaving it in a bag for over a week (the poor Wii sat in the box I initially moved to Dayton with for 3 and a half months before it finally got sold)
3. Xbox rapture
4. My system's secret shutdown code is 21
5. My Xbox is a manic depressive that went into serious withdrawals after the serious bonding we shared when I was home
6. There's a troll sitting inside my system wearing a Call Of Duty t-shirt that has dedicated his life to destroying anything Halo
7. A ninja actually did pull the plug from the outlet.
Personally my vote is for number 3, but I guess I'm going to have to do a little research to see what's really going on. I really don't want to have to replace another 360 (I've been "fortunate" enough to only have to replace my system once).
I don't know what it could be, or what I should do about it. Any thoughts?
