Okay, seriously guys?
Do you know how many of Rammstein's songs are about sex?
Seriously?

Almost all of them.

Such a shame that a good band has to resort to this. That song was horrid and the video was unessisarrily pornographic; it wont get shown on T.V because of the video, and wont get aired on the radio because of the lyrics. That was just a death-wish for them, I and I'm sure many other people have lost all respect for them.
Why would ppl lose respect for this?
That they stooped to that level? Singing about getting laid is something reserved for rappers, and we all know how most people view modern rap.
Yeah, because no other musical genre ever makes songs about sex, EVER...

You must be green behind the ears.

*sigh* I guess my point went way over your head.

When you think of music that sings about blatant sexual imagery in that much detail, what do you think of, J-pop?

<spoiler=I submit to you... Exhibit A><youtube=Zxf0TOk0ho0>
To be honest, I didn't even watch the video. But that fact still remains, every single genre has had at least a few songs about sex. The level of explicitness is merely a sign on the times.

Honestly, I think western culture needs more music and art like this; art in general should challenge the boundaries, while not going to stupid and truly offensive extremes in the process.

Realistically, Rammstein is being honest: sex sells, and I'd buy it for a dollar.
For asexual prudes like myself, sex kind of ruins art and turns it into something less. Nothing ever made will ever appeal to everyone, as everyone has different tastes and desires.
I completely agree that no single form of expression will satisfy every taste, but that doesn't mean that society should restrict expression to the least offensive forms. I'd get offended by artistic pablum pretty rapidly, myself. And realistically, considering the Rammstein lyrics that I've figured out (or had translated), this is hardly the most offensive thing they've ever sang about.

Something else that people living in N.Am should consider: the German outlook on sexuality is different that the standard N.Am outlook, and it's hardly fair to judge video solely from the relatively prudish standard that many here share. Affection and sexuality are largely repressed in German culture, but privately, German are nearly as freaky as the Japanese.

Except Mutter, I think, but I'm not positive about that. The only thing I really know about that song it that "Mutter" can mean either Mother, or crazy, depending on the context. I don't understand enough German to be positive, though.

The music is good. REALLY good. The lyrics are very bad. The video? I'm not even going there.

you hand me your horns and go back to where ever you came from cause you aren't allowed to listen to metal ever again and i'm tossing you out of the metal listener's club. frankly out of the whole rock music listener's club as well

first of there's the song Buch Dich by Rammstein, do you know the translation for it? it's Bend Over

translated the first few lines are
Bend over, I command you
turn your visage away from me
I don't care about your face
bend over

then there's Bestrafe Mich, which translates to Punish Me and guess what they are singing about in that song? then there's Küss mich Fellfrosch or Kiss Me Furfrog, then there's Du Hast

that is just one Rammstein cd, i could go thru all of them pointing out how many songs are about sex in one way or the other

also there's Hot for Teacher by Van Halen, Just a Gigolo by David Lee Roth, Domino, Love Gun, They Call me Dr Love and many more by KISS, and You Shoke me All Night long, Thunderstruck, Whole Lotta Rosie and others by AC/DC, Cherry Pie by Warrant.

i could go on about metal and rock songs about sex, if you think only rappers sing about it, you should really stop listening to metal and rock altogether cause there's a reason they call it "Sex, Drugs & Rock'n'Roll"

I feel that if Rammstein doesn't make you say "WTF" at least once per album, thet're not doing their job. This video may not go to the absolute depths of mind-fuckery (like the Mein Teil video) but it's enough to offend sensabilities and generate some buzz/controversy for the band and the new album.
they are even more fun in concert, i'm going when they come around this time, it should be interesting

forgot to mention that i found the video and the song to be pretty awesome

Wow, are we really all that big of prudes?! Sex is normal, and guess what, your parents had sex, and theirs, and so on. Its natural, fun, and 100% necessary to the survival of life. Plus, their rock stars, can you really be surprised?

Ummmmm... They had quite a few songs about sex (and other provocative stuff) pretty much from the start, and already had at least one video about which you could say the same ("Mann gegen Mann"), so I can't see how they "have to resort to this"... And I've heard "Rein raus" - the song most obviously dealing with sex - on the radio. And seen "Mann gegen Mann" on TV.

I don't like the single too much, but then again, "Benzin" turned out to be the worst song on "Rosenrot".
Yeah, it might get some airtime on some radiostations, but the amount of stations that would play any Rammstein song is scarce enough, let alone one that would play a Rammstein song with lyrics like that. Although, even on the late night music video shows there has never been a video that actually showed sex, sure there are videos filled with nudity but there are legal lines and it wouldn't be allowed on T.V on any free channel.

Relative to other Rammstein songs, this one is fairly soft. Just look at Zwitter, that's a song about hermaphrodites.

Well, listening to that song has turned my mind into a confused mush.. do i like it or not?

I was watching it, listening to the vaguely amusing lyrics "I CAN GET LAID IN GERMANY!" and just waiting for the band to make some sort of point about the song. Where they parodying sex? The music style and video would indicate that, but there was no cynicism or sense of irony to it. Then the German flag waving came in and i thought they where going to make a point about nationalism, perhaps about the stereotype of continental Europeans having lots of sex. However this point did not seem sufficiently developed to become a theme to this song.

Rammstein are an intelligent band, just look at the lyrics to Adios, or the music video to Amerika, they wouldn't just write a song about plain sex without some sort of point to it? They would not descend the the level of generic club music would they?

Maybe the song is a parody of sex- "What's the problem? You have a pussy, I have the Dick" Perhaps it's a rhetorical question about their being to much sex nowadays. Rammstein are saying there actually is a problem. Yet, they could have made this point, if it is a point, a bit more obvious. Ich Will mehr irony und cynicism bitte!

They have sung the song in English, which is telling for a foreign band. To me this means that they are advertising their material to the world, in English so they can understand it. They are selling themselves. However, i don't think their selling themselves in the right way (beyond the sex theme, how typical is this Rammstein song?) and there annoying the fans as well. I, like many others, prefer it when they sing im deutsch . Most of all, the music video and lyrics are too obsene for the mainstream. However, not too extreme for clubs and bars perhaps. Maybe this is where they hope it will be played?

(disclaimer- My German is very rudimentary, to any native German speakers, please have mercy)

Hmm, I'm in two minds about this. I can't say I think the video was a good idea, it goes way too far - its pretty much hardcore porn without the lingering crotch shots. And to be honest the lyrics are kinda grating and uncomfortable to listen to.

But on the other hand I suppose that was the point of the song. Still though, whatever message it may have had I think will be lost under the "ZOMFG! Pr0nz!!" hubbub that's sure to come.

Hm. I partly agree with both sides of the discussion here. On one side, the song itself sucks and looking for much of a deeper meaning is pointless. On the other side, I agree with what Crimsanon is saying - maybe we're not really meant to think about this song and it's really more of a controversial song to generate buzz about the new album. Rammstein has proven to me that they can write some pretty interesting stuff ('Los' is really well thought out and 'Dalai Llama' is pure brilliance if you know it's background), and I've always thought that their songs on sex were some of their worst anyway.

That said, the song could indeed have been miles better with less English, more German, and a less silly chorus. Even if the chorus is so simply written because porn/sex is so simple as well, words like "dicka" and sentences like "so what's the problem?" make me cringe in my seat.

Im saddened by this...
Ive always liked Rammstein, and I dislike it when they cater to the English listeners. It just doesn't flow as well, and the lyrics become so simplified and shallow that I often dislike it.

Now that may just be because Deutsch is a second language to me, so I inherently find it more exotic and mystifying. But Im fairly sure I don't like this, and I don't want it.

So no,
bad Rammstein.

What happened to the greatness of "Mutter"?
Bad lyrics here. Damn, I used to like Rammstein a lot.
