A race of necromantic raider people. They live in the mountains, and raid settlements, generally cannibalizing in victory of a successful pillaging. Then they stitch the corpses into foul creatures, and re-animate them to serve as puppets.

Actually. Don't use that. I'm already using that in my RP.

Anyways, what about a race of people who have shells like snails? They would be nomads who would be kinda like centaurs, except their lower torso would be embedded into a shell.
Ooh! And then you would have hermit ones who would raid other people's shells, and take them as their own!

..........I have to draw that..

EDIT: Another idea! How about a race of midget people, who are about the size of a football, but have extreme mastery over stone and earth, and create large exoskeletons out of it?
I dunno.. Just spit-balling ideas..
These are all pretty sweet. Especially the last one. I can't help but think of how they'd play in an RPG, though. That would make for a pretty sweet game.

The Pandarians(forgive me if I misspelled that) from the Warcraft lore. They were - for lack of a better word - Panda-people. They used brewery to fight. Drunken brawlers, flaming beer breath, etc.

I personally think the greatest idea would be the Gelatinous cube as a proper sentient race, rather than just a monster :-D
To be honest, there is very little that hasn't been done somewhere...

Kappas. And whatever those japanese folklore things with giant transforming testicles are, them too.

But no, really. It's all been done before and it won't really change.

Sure, you get humans - you pretty much expect it. You might even find a few generic versions of it, asians of sorts, europeans of sorts, norse of sorts, africans of sorts and a few others.

You get elves (or drow) but they're pretty much the same thing. Even when they aren't called elves. Pretty races that "magically" consists of 99% female 1% undisclosed. They might not even be named elves, it's always the same.

Dwarves. Same thing. Either actual dwarves or another stocky, beardy race. Maybe a dwarf in reverse, a giant. Probably with hammers and everything. Yeah. Sometimes halflings or hobbits, which are pretty much like dwarves but with less emphasis on stone and hammers.

A generic beastman combination. Little to say here, could be your manbear, manpig, or whatever. Might go more in a beast direction and less in the man direction and end up as some kind of kobold.

A possible mechanic/elemental race or races. Pull an element out of your ass, make people with it's imagery around. Like those robot-men (whatever the official name is, forgot) from DDO. Or whatever. Sometimes alien, but still a biped and basically a human with slightly changed features (Remind me again, why does a bloody robot need a mouth? Or a rock elemental, a face?)

All those things share a humanoid shape. Non-humanoid races, I assume, would more likely be considered generic monsters and readers/gamers will have less of a connection with them, or whatever. But yeah, a giant colony-type organism would be cool.
There are kappa in Guildwars. mostly on shing jea in faction but there are some in kaineng city

My username is a race i made up...

the shortest way to describe them would be... large canine humans...
but i came up with them years ago... so by now they have a lot of other little things i came up with over time...
most of which made them a lot less like lycanthropes...
but i really cba to explain it :p

...Hows about a race of people (indeterminate physical appearance) who transform into the thing they fear most under moolight? I figure why the hell not...
Or how about guys who control their bone structure and mass?
EDIT: Second on the dragon-themed dudes-- that is, unless you've read that one Dragonlance...
Thats in a class - the druid/shaman have shapeshifting abilities

Ooh, manbear would be fun. Manbearpig, not so much, though.
What about Pig people? haven't seen them before.
Already been done with Orcs. In some versions of them anyway, they resemble pigs quite closely, and are even derogatively called "hogs" by other races in Kingdom under Fire.

Some race of intelligent birds. Giant crow or eagle-like creatures would be cool. Alternatively, some kind of plant people who are nourished by photosynthesis.

EDIT: and thats not even taking into account the villains of Tombi.

Like many I'm tired of the same old Elf, Human, Orc, Dwarf set up of most open ended RPGs. So any Ideas on new ones?

Here are a few of mine

A Beast race that is Half man half Bear.
An Alien race that isn't reptilian, psyonic, and parasitic.
Rock People.
Man-Bears are in Guild Wars. Can't remember the name... they're like Vikings who can tranform into half-bears. Bad ass.

Decent Alien race, look to Warcraft. The Draenei.

For rock people, as someone said Gorons.

As for my own ideas, erm, hard...

Perhaps a kingdom of intelligent spiders... oh wait, warcraft has that too.

How about a race of humanoid foxes, who all sound scottish.

Insectoid race would be cool. Maybe like a giant praying mantis.
I have an idea! how about a RPG that lets you create your own race! With a much more powerful version of the Creature Creator! You would be able to set its base attributs and special abilities.
The storyline could be that you are the last of an ancient race, trying to discover what happened to the rest of your people.

GURPS lets you do that.

The Hollow.
Invisible humanoid spirits that can bind themselves to hollow items. Doing that would shape the item into a humanoid form if it wasn't already
Walking armours, jumping teapots, those dead trees that attack you, etc.
The most powerful ones would even be able to shape mountains around them, of course there must be a tunnel-system/cave in the mountain to do that.
They cannot affect the world without a husk, mind you.

Pray that doesn't exist yet.
