Never played a Serious Sam game before, however, even though it doesn't look innovative anymore, it may be worth a purchase if it is a real challenge.

Serious Sam was never innovative. That wasn't the point, the point was killing like a bajillion mooks with over the top death cannons and over the top literal hand cannons in a whirling cloud of over the top death.

Unsurprisingly, that's what makes the so much fun.

I mean, there's even a weapon called the Serious Bomb and an 'unreleased beta' of a game called Serious Sam Forever, how can such a series possibly not be great?

This.

It's also hilarious in multiplayer with a couple of mates.

Serious Sam is an homage to old-school shooters like Duke Nukem 3D that doesn't take itself (or anything else) too seriously. If you're looking for innovative gameplay, a meaningful storyline, or deep characters, stay away from Serious Sam. If you're looking to blow away thousands of monsters with really big guns, this game is as good as it gets.

Haven't tried the new one yet (in fact, this is the first time I've even heard there was a new one), but if it's available on PC I'll be sure to pick it up.

Hah! That's fucking awesome.

In a world where far too many games take themselves to extreme levels of srsbiznis Serious Sam is a breath of fresh air.

Never played serious sam, but I heard the xbox version has really weird controls and way too much auto aim. You can shoot 2 feet next to them and it the bullets would hit the enemies like they were heat seeking.

I played the demo and it was...alright actually. The gameplay itself is almost exactly the same as the original (with the possible exclusion of the lives system that I actually miss rather dearly now I have to go without them) so whether it's good or not isn't a matter of whether this game in particular is good so much as 'did you like Serious Sam to begin with?'.

If the answer is 'yes' then you'll still love the 'new' Serious Sam just as much as you loved the old one and I wish you good times.

If the answer is 'no' then you probably won't like this game either, in which case I personally think you need to let go of your pickle and develop a sense of humour.

Apparently it's really, really buggy and not great. Just stick with the old ones, I think you can get them.

So would this be a good game to download if I've never played a SS game before? I've always thought it looked like a fun game, but for whatever reason never bothered to pick it up. Should I go ahead and download it?

Its boring as heck, ugly flat worlds and uninspired gameplay. Do not get unless you just really like retro stuff.

Serious SAM? No can actually take that game serious can they? Na but seriously I tried it out. It is basically the original game with increased graphics and such, and by basically I mean that's exactly what it is. Pretty entertaining for a little while, but doesn't really hold your interest like games do today.
