I don't if everyone heard, but a new silent hill game is in development and looks like its going to be the mind fucking horror experience silent hill 2 was, or at least that what it claims to be.

The new character appears to be a prisoner that either escaped into Silent Hill or was abandoned in Silent Hill. It looks like it will be going back to its roots with a symbolic plots and psychological horror.

Speculation? Thought or Comments?

P.S. Doesn't he look a little like James Sunderland?

I've been a huge fan of the series for years. That being said, I haven't liked the games since Team Silent stopped making them.

If the American team is making this, I officially couldn't give a shit less beyond this point. They can't even let me stomp the monsters after they fall. And this can't be Silent Hill 8. There's only 0-4, and some non-canon side stories. I don't even think 0 should count, but I'll let it slide for not having the usual major plot holes Homecoming had.

Anyway, I like that they are trying to make the shift to the alternate world look more impressive, but I wish they were real time, and not always scripted. it would just make it more fun for me as a player. I do like how the objects go away this time though, as apposed to Homecoming, where it just rusts, and that's it.

tl;dr ver.

It better be Team Silent, or I won't even check it out past this point. The American team has let me down 3 times already, so no more chances.

The story of the game is written by Konami, but the game itself is being made by Vatra Games, a company in the Czech Republic, so no it isn't being made by those pesky American devs, it's just not team silent although strangely enough this is being called a team "silence" production.

Good, why can't new devs and producers just learn to leave beloved properties alone unless they're going to do a good job? Like Bay and Transformers for example..........

The effect where the cell turns to some sort of nightmarish version of it self seems like what happened in Silent Hill Homecoming, so I'm going to assume American team and skip over this one.

That's a step in the right direction, but all I heard is 'Still not Team Silent'. So I really don't think I'll be following this game past this point.

Get over it. You're the only person in this thread not enjoying the topic.

OT: I watched the trailer a day or two ago and was left skeptical. This is probably because the person that showed it to me called Silent Hill a poor man's Resident Evil. I don't think he understands the series.

I'm sitting in a library, so I can't watch it with sound. Still, I rather liked what I saw. The town seemed nicely dark, abandoned, haunted, all the good stuff, the rain was a nice touch, the transition to Otherworld looked amazing. What I'm worried about is that things like walking across the tree trunk, or climbing will manifest themselves as quicktime events. For those of you who haven't played Homecoming, they were one of the most annoying parts of the game, sans the sheer number of locked doors. I'm also a bit concerned that the game will be too combat focused, and not more like Silent Hill 2, but that's just personal taste.

But to the lucky few who got the audio as well, how was it? Any hint of annoying voice actors, or something equally bad?

There was only two lines of spoken dialogue from a cop, nothing from the main protagonist but I'd assume he has mental problems/has visited Silent Hill before due to all the shakiness. Hell, it could even be James himself just as an older man. All the sounds fit though so no worries.
Good to hear!
The prisoner being James? Nah, that wouldn't make sense. He has already faced his demons, unless the bloke was stupid enough to get married to yet another terminally ill woman...
What's the backstory of the prisoner anyway? Has he killed someone (which would make him prime Silent Hill material), or is he just an innocent guy trapped by cruel fate?
I should get back to studying, damnit >>

It sure is sporting of Pyramid head to leave all those working flashlights laying around. Also, loved the Morgan Freeman cameo as that the police officer or mailman (couldn't really tell which). Phenomenal music, though.

No, James never mentions children in the game. I'm pretty sure his interaction with Laura is the first time he had to deal with the young'uns. Are you sure James was in the army? That's the first I've heard of it

Silent Hill is actually the only series where amnesia fits well. Let's hope for a good backstory, not fully revealed until the very end, but with tons of foreshadowing and symbolism

One last thing, as much as I like the guy, I hope Pyramid Head stays out of this one. He had his moment as a manifestation of James's conscience, let him stay there

I haven't seen/played Homecoming, and the only game I've played 2 on the PS2, but Silent Hill is actually lookin' pretty cool this generation.

In the beginning of the trailer I saw the classic fog and I was like :D, but then I saw the creepy eyes and I was like D:

Looks fine, but then again so did the trailers for Homecoming. Heck, even Origins seemed fine at first.
Is it weird that the first minute or so with the forest at night reminds me very much of Alan Wake?

There is definitely potential here if they go the SH2 route of the town shaping a personal hell for the protagonist because he's a convict... probably some naaasty stuff in his conscious/subconscious for the town to dredge up and twist. Unfortunately, this potentially opens the door for another Pyramid Head wannabe (or even the big guy himself), and frankly I don't need that.

I'm cautiously optimistic and will keep following this project, but I won't hold my breath until I've seen some solid gameplay and/or a decent-looking outline for the plot.

I've heard he was a soldier at one point from others....

I'd like to think they have more creativity than to just use Pyramid head again.
As far as I know, the only Silent Hill protagonist associated with military service is Alex from Homecoming
although that was just him going batshit after killing his brother; his father served, and treated him like crap as he was the intended sacrifice. Hence he fantasized about having actually been in the military

I hold my breath. Looks good. But so did the rest, really.
Breathe, remember to BREATHE!!! I guess I'm a fan boy for the original 4 and nothing since has quite lived up (some haven't come close-I'm looking at you Shattered Memories) to the originals. I'm not saying that solely because they are different production companies but because the new companies decide they want to change everything. I'll keep a hopeful eye on it but won't get excited until I hear some positive reviews.

OT: a faithful remake of the original 4 would be awesome. The only changes added being graphical updates and tweaking things like camera control and it would freak out a whole new generation of gamers and allow fanboys (yeah, such as myself) to get creeped out all over again.

I think the "children" you're referring to were representations of his thoughts on having children. You know, like he wanted to have them but couldn't because of what happened with Laura.
